Blacks, at least those in the US, seem to ignore this because this don't fit their narrative of victimization by whites. All it takes is just a simple google search to find that the slave market is already in existence before Europeans arrived. They simply just bought slaves and rarely have to go out of their way to hunt them. Heck, these people sold slaves for brass bracelets and cowrie shells....
Africans enslave other Africans all the time for various reasons. It just depends on the ethic group. Some enslave their own and sell them, others capture slaves from enemy groups, etc.
They also have a wrong assumption that the Europeans were responsible for most of the slave trade. That is wrong. The Arabs shipped far more slaves than the Europeans. The only difference is that most of these slaves died very shortly or were not allowed to have children. Slavery of black Africans exist even now in certain Arab nations such as Sudan and Mauritania. I've never been in the United Arab Emirates, but I saw a television program in which he said that the locals there don't work. All the work is done visiting migrants. If so then this can also be considered as an example of modern slavery. I come from a country that send a lot of migrant workers there so yes, it's not just UAE, it's the whole Middle East. They don't like working. I believe most people there receive subsidies from the government. I had a high-school classmate who used to live in KSA, he said education is free and there are allowances. If you have money anyway, why work as a construction worker, or service crew, cashier or maid? And so they just hire workers from abroad. Mostly from maritime SE Asia and South Asia, as well as Africa. Even store clerks. If all migrants would suddenly disappear, it'll come at screeching halt.

I disagree with your post. No one is forcing the expats to work there. They are working because the salaries are much higher than what they could get back home. But you can find plenty of examples of modern day slavery in the middle east. In Saudi Arabia, in remote desert regions there are camel and goat farms, which employ slave labor. These people are forcibly held against their will and doesn't receive any wages.

There are people who go there and instead placed in jobs different from the contract they signed. Some end up with salaries much less than they signed for. Those are the luckier ones. Some (especially women) are just locked up at home and don't receive salary, their documents taken from them. These are the desperate ones you see in the news jumping off buildings just to get away from their employers.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (KKR) is a body similar to a court established in South Africa after the end of apartheid. Anyone who feels that they have become victims of violence are welcome to face and hear by this Commission.

ROFL, more like an African must have raped his mom, burned some nuns, and shot some kids. On Sunday A point to ponder, this thread is a perfect example. The rhetoric the OP presents, is this not an example of radicalization? We have a violent intent, factionalism, and expoused means. To me, it's not too many steps from a post like this, to suddenly deciding to grab your handgun, hop in a van, and mow down some folks. But we have entertained this ideology for a few pages of discussion, even as we have decried and ridiculed the OP. But if this was an ISIS sympathizer, I would have reported him myself we are all complicit We can change things, but we all have to agree they need to be changed

Heck, even people from Europe go to Saudi to work, but usually as experts. You won't see those people cheated on the their contract. EU would raise hell. The problem is that these recruiters can get away exploiting people from poorer countries, tempting them with good offers only to enslave them. Embassies of these countries are usually powerless to help their citizens. Surest way to go home if you were abused is to try to escape (although you can end up in jail without the embassy knowing). If they managed to send you back, don't expect to get the money you worked for. You basically wasted months or years of your life. Again, not everyone there act this way, but a lot do, or else it wouldn't reach the point that some countries are banning deployment to certain Gulf states (though most often it's just KSA they ban travel to). I remember some country from Africa, just forgot the name but it's sub-Saharan.

I am not certain, because a lot of people exploited the Africans throughout its history. First, it was the Arabs and the Persians. After that, it was the turn of the Europeans (especially the British, Portuguese, French and the Spanish). And now the Chinese are exploiting the Africans.

Northern Europe. A few were very enthusiastic slavers. Others were slaves themselves. Go figure. I feel no guilt or anger about either. They're all dead and gone.

Slavery existed in almost all the continents, including Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas (not sure about Oceania). In my place, slavery was outlawed only during the 1850s, and even after that it was informally practiced. Even during the beginning of the 20th century, certain groups of people were being held in slave-like conditions. (And I am from South Asia).

Northern Europeans (especially the Vikings from Sweden and Norway were famous for their slave raids). But as far as I know, they never targeted the African continent. What exactly are you trying to say? It's not "looking for enemies" if you are pointing out things that are indeed happening. Fact is that migrant workers have very poor protection in the Middle East. You rarely hear these abuses happening to people working in Europe. Sure, some people in the Middle East really look at foreign workers as slaves but it's the system there that allow these abuses to happen. You can't make up stuff like this... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jan/13/saudi-arabia-treatment-foreign-workers That it takes years for families of workers to know that their relative is even in jail just shows how bad the system is. Some even find out just a day before the relative is slated for execution. Embassies are even clueless to their citizens whereabouts since the police don't always inform them.
