Note: this is a theoretical thread to discuss what would happen to Bitcoin, its price, and fanatics if it was suddenly revealed who is Satoshi Nakamoto and that they are now deceased.

What would happen to:

1. Bitcoin technology;

2. The price of a Bitcoin;

3. How would the community feel.

Discuss.

Deceased or not, I am not sure that will change anything for bitcoin. Bitcoin is here already at large and there is already more to it than satoshi himself. Devs are doing their jobs on the technology whether satoshi is with them or not, the price is apparently determined by the market and I am sure no one will because of that start pulling out, and the community may not really care. Will I care? No! I'd probably just wish him safe trip outa this world and probably if he can give me part of his coins though!

Nothing will happened I think in number 1 and 2.  But on the other hand people will be surely saddened if it is true that Satoshi is already dead.  If it wll be aired on tv, then perhaps many people will be curious about it and a great demand for bitcoin will happen.

He already did his job and made a lot of people profit from it.
I guess after that people wont care much. As long as they are having a benefit from what he had done and it wont affect the market even if he dies then it would be nothing for them.
It will be just like another unknown person for them died.
I dont think it wont bring much chaos with the crypto world.

The price would probably pump, because the fear of some guy having 1 million coins would not be there again. Some are worried that whoever satoshi is goes insane and dumps 1 million coins into the market and whatnot. But then again, his coins could be stolen.. so I think it would change nothing. It may be a non event, then again markets can act irrational so who knows. I don't think long term it would change anything.

Bitcoin is already owned by investors so it will not affect anything if its inventors like sathosi nakamoto die, thanks for finding a profitable digital money.
This may be bad news but will not impact anything with bitcoin value.

It should come as little surprise that this news wouldn't elicit any kind of response from the majority of Bitcoin users. Those closest to Nakamoto, perhaps, would feel some sadness, those who've always known privately wouldn't anyway be open to displaying their responses.

The only information this confirmation would help confirm is if his death also meant the certain loss of 1 million Bitcoin, in which case the max cap would have been reduced by almost 5%.

1. Bitcoin technology doesn't belong to Satoshi any more. So - same old.
2. Satoshi could destroy Bitcoin with one click of his mouse if he decides to sell his Bitcoin stash. Oh wait he is dead....
3. Who cares? Everyone is in this for the money.

If Satoshi is dead, he will become a symbol or even a legend with time

But he is likely already a legend, and even more so if no one finds out about him. Though this is unlikely, there should be folks who know for certain who is the guy behind this name, and they will make a clean breast sooner or later (when their time comes). Regarding the questions in the OP, Bitcoin technology is not tied to just one person (in other words, there's no single point of failure), so everything will go on as per usual. The market sentiment can be confused, though. On the one hand, his coins would be essentially left for dead, which would mean the fears of them being dumped will vanish over time (provided there were any, in the first place, of course), while on the other, the markets may feel somewhat depressed and some folks may choose to dump their coins (but not many, anyway). The community won't be quite happy, obviously. I guess the majorly would choose if Satoshi remained incognito till the end of days (or at least, till the end of Bitcoin)

Are you lot stupid?

Ever heard of Wills, inheritance, etc?

Satoshi would have left it to his children and they will start selling to buy flashy homes and cars. The children may not realised their dad invented Bitcoin. They will come on here and see the ungrateful fuckwits making negatives comments and go "fuck you you ungrateful twats" and dump 5000 BTC per week.

Now that would be fun Grin Grin Grin

I think even she/he is dead bitcoin will still continue like it used to be.
And she/he already left his/her legacy, which is Bitcoin.
But, I, too, curious about the price.
And about the community feel, we surely will lost and missed our legend.

You have a few questions to answer before your post can make some sense. First, you should prove that Satoshi is a real person, dead or alive, and not some group of researchers (or an obscure government agency like the NSA). Further, if he is (was) a real human, you should then prove then he has (had) children at all. Besides that, the next thing you would have to prove is whether he actually went for "wills, inheritance, etc" as you innocently assume. Just in case, I myself don't have to prove anything since I didn't challenge or question anything in my post

Don't know about stupid, but your comment looks more like a remark made by a clown

Great clickbait title Grin

That being said, it's probably for the best of this community and himself that Satoshi died, or pretended to be dead (which would be the ideal, because obviously nobody wishes anyone's death). People would finally leave him alone. Bitcoin technology would remain, the price would go haywire with heavy swings for a few days and the community would eventually stop mocking him and saying he's be the solution to each and every problem.

If satoshi nakamoto will found by government one day. If he is still alive,I think it will be no influence in the bitcoin technology and maybe this technology will updated by him in the future. The price will still increase like usual. and about community, for sure they will feel too good, when they find that nakamoto satoshis is still alive. In other side, If he found died. I think this is does not affect bitcoin technology, The price may decrease! and people will feel bad for this news of course.

It would be the single best thing which could happen to the Bitcoin. We must accept the fact that bitcoin has grown so big that even if Satoshi is alive and disclosing himself with the valid proof then there will be threats to his life and possible pressure from the government authorities to compromise the security, privacy of the bitcoin so I believe if he is dead then it would be a good sign for the bitcoin and my opinion doesn't mean that I am happy, I deeply respect this genius and wish a long healthy life for him (and want him to remain under cover forever).

The only issue I could see with this, is that if someone in his will was able to get a hold of all the Bitcoins that he supposedly has and then used them to just simply liquidate them for the will itself, that'd lead to some insane problems due to the amount of coins and amount of money those would all be worth. Gosh, that'd be a price drop if anyone has ever seen one. But, I'd have to agree with you on the fact that it would end the rumors and it would show that the currency can live without its founder or leader without any issue in the least, we could move on as a decentralized group and be fine. Still, wonderful man and I hope he lives till he's old.

I think nothing would happen if a day we discover that Satoshi is dead. Bitcoin is now already running since "long time" that such thing will have no effect, at least in the long run. Maybe for a week or two, we will see all the bla bla bla on the news, wich may impact the value/volume but after this the stones will continue  rolling. The same will be if a day we see Satoshi comes back. Whereever he is, I hope he is going good

What would happen to the tech? Um, nothing? Obviously.

The price? It'd go up. The private keys with possibly hundreds of thousands of bitcoins are now useless.

The community would probably have some sort of big ceremony/memorial to honour their life.

What about if satoshi was a group of people? Would all of them be dead?

This is not set in stone

Even if we assume the worst case scenario when someone dumps that amount of bitcoins instantly, that would likely eat up all liquidity and swallow the whole orderbook at a given exchange for a brief period of time, but what will it change in the end? Someone else will just buy up all these bitcoins very cheap for likely a few million dollars, and he who manages to buy most of them will turn a billionaire in just a few days when the price massively rebounds. As I see it, there will be a long-long queue of wealthy folks wanting Satoshi's bitcoins cheap

Since Satoshi isn't in any  way controlling Bitcoin or influencing it, I think there would be no reaction. Maybe a small dump by market manipulators that hope to cause panic among clueless investors and buy low. I wouldn't care if he's dead or not, why would you?
To know that he's dead we'd first have to know his identity. This would be a more breaking news than his death.

Unfortunately for you, I have just read an article where it claimed that the creator of bitcoin who claimed to be Satoshi with all analogies and events analysis died in 2013 but nothing happen to bitcoin if truly he had been the one who created bitcoin. What we have witnessed is even a sporadic increase in the price of bitcoin from 2013 till date. So bitcoin has been able to grow without relying fully on Satoshi and that is what has make it worthwhile and will remain so even if we learn of the real Satoshi.

There's a possibility he is alive and just having fun seeing his brain child attaining unprecedented heights across the globe! Does it make sense to kill the goose that lays the golden egg, that should be the question? What exactly does he stand to gain by dumping the market with his 1 million Bitcoin, does he need to be tutored about the huge potentials of Bitcoin? A mastermind of Bitcoin and blockchain technology is unlikely to settle for less, not after 8 years and the positive outlook of things.

At any rate, Bitcoin has moved on and Satoshi would impact it less dead or alive. In the event of sell of the million Bitcoin, it would jolt the market no doubt for a while, but sooner than later, the market will absorb all that and start yearning for more.
