virus sent from Mt.Gox??

i just got this email, and it seems too fishy. since when have we ever needed to manually install this kind of "certificate" for security purposes?

Our database has been compromised, how you already know.
 
To protect your account in the future, please download  the Certificate (self-extracting archive) from Attachment and install it.
 
If you were using the same password on Mt.Gox and other places (email, mybitcoin.com, etc),
you should change this password as soon as possible.
 
Please accept our apologies for the troubles caused, and be certain we will do
everything we can to keep the funds entrusted with us as secure as possible.
 
 
Any unauthorized access done to any account you own (email, mtgox, etc) should
be reported to the appropriate authorities in your country.

If you receive ANY email which seems coming from Mt.Gox asking you to download something (certificate, generating program, etc), DO NOT DOWNLOAD. Do not either input your password on any site which is not MTGOX.COM.

Be very wary of opening any emails at the moment. Mine and your email addresses are 'out there' and I expect to be spammed quite a bit over the next few days/weeks/months until I get round to creating a new email address.

Check back here for confirmation from other users if you think you may have received a legitimate email from mtgox asking you to 'revalidate' your account.

There's no doubt about this. MtGox DID NOT send out the "virus". It is very easy to spoof the sending address in an email, and since the list of MtGox accounts is now out (emails included) we can expect many more "viruses" (and other "smarter" attacks) in the future. It's not the end of the world: exercise caution, don't download attachements and don't click on links in emails.

I would not download any attachment from Mt. Gox any time soon.

Downloading email attachments from untrusted/unknown sources is a bad idea anyway!
