I have bitcoin.  I however get them through betting sites so i never had to actually buy any btc.

I have american bank accounts.

What is the best way for me to get litecoin, waves and ETH?

Should i open an account at an exchange like bittrex or poloniex?  I will only be buying it and holding it.  No interest in selling.  I also have coinbase account but i do not use it as i heard coinbase should be avoided.

I read online that i could exchange btc for other coins.  If so, what is the best site to do this?

I read about shapeshift.  It seems easy to use but how are the fees?  For example, if i exchange $1000 worth of btc for litecoin or waves for example, how much in litecoin or waves or eth will i receive?  Would it be around $990 so around 1 percent fee?  Or it is going to be like 2-5 percent fee?  What other sites are similar to shapeshift?  Is shapeshift the best site to do this?

I also read if you do this through an exchange like bittrex and poloniex, the fees would be something like 0.25% fee?  Is that true?  Is that the fee when buying with bank transfer or with btc?  It seems like the easiest way to do it would be swap btc for litecoin, waves, eth etc.

Can someone tell me what is best suggestion?  I assume its also easier to buy it with btc as oppose to bank transfer as its more simpler?

I'm also curious but is there anything like localbitcoins but for ETH, litecoin, waves and other currency like this?  Such as i transfer them bank transfer, skrill or bank deposit for example and then receive ETH, Litecoin and waves?

Thanks.

If you already have the BTC, just create an account in Poloniex. In Bittrex they will ask you for full name, date of birth, place of birth, pretty much everything, and they check against public records too. It usually used to be the wild wild west, not anymore.

In Poloniex they ask for name but you can put whatever you want, they don't seem to care, but you can only withdraw $2000 a day so if you are a whale it's annoying. They dont have Waves tho.

Never used shapeshift.

Just check the fee rates on their respective websites.

Get some Bitcoin and search for the exchanges with highest volume, then select the option that would give you more litecoins. Just check if people are complaining about the exchange in the internet to see if you would not have problems.

I dont have much idea how much does poloniex charge up on fees on converting but you can anytime check on it and see it for yourself. If you do have the bitcoin to purchase some alts then always go on reputable and high volumed exchanges like poloniex and bittrex is also a good option too.I dont know in other exchange if they had those coins that you mentioned above.

The fees at Poloniex is 0.15% for selling (maker) and 0.25% for buying (taker) and it can be reduced to 0% and 0.05% respectively given your 30 days trading volume. (that is for trading volume > 120,000 BTC by the way)

If you want to buy WAVES too, I recommend Bittrex as Poloniex does not currently have WAVES. Bittrex fees are the same, 0.25% for all trades. Smiley

Are these the fees when buying with bank transfer or with btc?  Are rates different depending on which way you pay?

Do you know how much fees shapeshift charges if converting btc to waves, eth, litecoin etc?

the best way to buy them is not to buy them right now because they are all in bubbles, but it is your decision and i keep seeing you make these topics for a couple of weeks now where you repeat over and over that you are planning to buy ETH, if you want to buy and think it is a good idea then just do it already Smiley

for buying these coins the best way is through exchanges such as poloniex and bittrex or any other that you feel more comfortable with their rules and services they offer. and for that you need bitcoin! specially since many of these coins such as Waves does not have any USD markets.

also shapeshift is a good place but the final total fees will be higher and you won't get the benefit of using a trading platform. for the fee details just read the website's FAQ, all of them have all the information you need.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

You can use both of the exchanges you mentioned because poloniex does not have waves listed in it but if you want you can use bittrex only because it got all the pairs you want to buy and is also the best way to get ETH, waves and LTC. It is also relatively easier to buy them using bitcoin, not via bank accounts because it would be a hassle and you are right about it having a 0.25% fee for trades. Also, there aren't USD pairs available for waves so buy using bitcoin only.

If you will suggest poloniex to buy such types of the coins then j don't think that poloniex will be better because the main reason is poloniex has limited numbers of the coins but another all exchanges are more better , Here I would like to suggest for the yobit.net , the reason for which I told for the yobit is really cool , because at yobit you can find atmost all the coins and you can send coins from Tobit to yobit free of cost ( using yobit code ) .
Since the OP already told that he can't make money due to charge of trade and fee of withdrawal , he means to make direct p2p trades so that he can make money .
But I think the OP can make trading at yobit ( free sell of code from one account to another ) without fee .

You can buy BTC, ETH, and LTC through American bank account via Coinbase. From there, if you buy up some BTC you can send it over to one of the good exchanges like Bittrex and submit trades for Waves. Come to think of it, Poloniex does not list Waves, so go with Bittrex Smiley

For ETH and LTC the best place to buy is Poloniex, for Waves, you can use its internal own marketplace after you deposited some BTC in your Waves wallet. Bittrex is also fine for all three coins but there they are asking for identification.

Why is Poloniex not adding Waves? Is it because it would be competition against themselves since Waves allows for their own exchange or is there some other drama that I missed?

Does this means projects like ARK or BLOCK will have problems being added in poloniex?

you can exchange btc for eth and ltc on poloniex?  What are the fees for converting?

Sorry to get back to you late, the fees that I listed are the fees for trading, where the site charges you a commission fee for every trade you make.

The withdrawal fees on these sites are based on the coin, and charges about 2 USD (or less) if it is an alt (really depends), no charges for deposit.

You cannot directly buy Bitcoin on Poloniex and Bittrex, but you can use CoinBase and connect your bank account there and buy Bitcoin/LTC/ETH directly.

Hope I clarified your doubts. Smiley
