The address cannot be generated by somebody else, maybe the first characters but not the rest so technically they are not identical. As for how much letters (how fast) you can get pretty much depends on the GPU power you have, If you choose something long, It will take forever, keep it simple for 4-5 characters.
See this thread for how to create one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0

Yeah, as the guy above me said I'd refrain from letting a website play any part in making this address in the least. The last thing you're going to want is to be losing money just because you wanted some dumb address with your name or nickname in it and couldn't just take the time to do this all by yourself.
Make the addy by yourself, never trust anyone with your private keys! This goes with anything and not just vanity addresses.

Personally, I would prefer not to use those fancy vanity gen addresses.
Somebody might be lulled into a false sense of security if they see the vanity part of the address match, and a scammer could create one, too, with the same prefix.
Plus, better to use an address that's backed by a hardware wallet.

You can create them yourself or have someone else make it for you. These are called "vanity address." If you want to make your own (safer as you are the only one knowing the whole private key. Though harder to generate addresses when it is nearing 7 characters or more. You will need a strong pc. Try out bitherwallet, they have an inbuilt vanity generator. The vanitygen.ext is quite to understand if the user is only a newby.

I just did it today with a small command line generator on a laptop, see discussion here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0My alias is only 5 letters which is perfect for this. It takes from some seconds to a few minutes. As soon as I tried adding letters, the predicted time exploded. I even launched it on a powerful 32-core server at work (not a production server) and it would have taken several days still. I think with my graphic cards it could be quicker, I must try.

That was sad experienced of yours, It is shows only that we need to be very careful in website that we are going to get in. It is still much good and better to use legit bitcoin wallet address like electrum wallet.

That's true, someone could spoof the vanity part to try to steal incoming funds by confusing people. Although I think there are ways to generate addresses that would protect you from that, even with a weak hashing rig, so long as you don't require an entire specific vanity name. IIRC you could search for some prefix you want and then see if by chance you get some other totally unpredicted english word right after your prefix. This way you could get the number of characters in the vanity part high enough that it is unlikely to be duplicated in any realistic time frame.

You can use following websites to generate bitcoin wallet vanity address, I haven't used any of them so be careful and do your research before going with any of these websites. https://bitcoinvanitygen.comhttps://vante.mehttps://github.com/samr7/vanitygenHowever, I would not recommend anyone to go with the vanity address. The best practice is to download secure, trusted github git and generating a wallet from the offline computer.

Or just use vanitygen. but bitcoinvanitygen is someone that you should not trust. Ever. Even though they say that the private keys are only to your eyes, they might be telling a lie. Nobody knows. Some people sa ythat their coins got stolen when it was in an address registered with bitcoinvanitygen. Just not worth the risk at all. Vanitygen is the safest option because everything can be done offline, and on your computer. Vanity addresses generated using vanitygen are as safe as bitaddress wallets.

That's really worse. What's the need of having fancy address. It always gain attention from users all around and this itself had serves as an reason for the loss of such a big amount. When we make changes its gets added somewhere else out of the origin. So it always has risk in it.

I guess your computer is a bit slow and prefix difficulty is high, 50% in 1.8h. You will get your address between 95-100% probability, but sometimes after 100%. Never use online third-party fancy address generators, not safe. I think apart from bitcoinvanitygen you can also create a vanity address using bitaddress.org, not recommended.
