Hard Drive Issues HP Recovery Manager Bitcoin Wallet

Hello. So I have a hard drive problem and the computer won't start. It wants me to use the HP Recovery Manager but I'm not sure if that will delete my wallet.dat file. I get to the the part where it says "Recovery Manager will reset the hard drive to factory condition. User Data and hard drive changes will be lost." I'm afraid to continue because I don't want it to delete the wallet.dat file. Does anyone know if HP Recovery Manager will delete the wallet.dat file or if it is safe to try?

Yes, it will delete your wallet.dat file.   Get or borrow a sata to usb adapter and try to get a copy of it before applying any fix.

Yes, copy the wallet.dat off the drive before doing anything.  Preferably making several copies if you have enough bitcoins in them to make it worthwhile to do so.

Seems like the issue have been resolved already better to lock out topic so that it wont continue any discussions later on. Good for you that you did ask first before making any actions on your harddrive problem. Reformatting or factory resets would really erase those files inside those drive, the suggestions above is the most good way on accessing saving files you do have.

Take that drive completely out and install Windows on a new drive, even a cheap 40GB drive, then, once Windows has settled and is working, shut the computer off, add your old drive and start it up, you may have to use BIOS to set the boot order.  AFter that you might need to use the drive manager to add the drive, but do not format it.

Do all this carefully and you will be able to peruse the drive without trouble and get the files you need. I think before proceeding you should understand what you are really wana do otherwise you can lose the wallet.dat file and of course the bitcoins.
