Maybe you should read this: CEO of online sports betting site arrested
Federal officials have charged 11 people, including the CEO of a big gambling website, alleging they committed conspiracy, racketeering and fraud in taking sports bets from U.S. residents.
The Justice Department said Monday it is seeking the forfeiture of $4.5 billion, cars and computers from the defendants, including BetOnSports PLC and three other companies.
BetOnSports Chief Executive David Carruthers and four other defendants were arrested over the weekend. Carruthers was arrested Sunday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport during as he awaited a flight from Texas to Costa Rica, where the company has operations.
Several of the defendants live outside the United States, which will make them hard to catch, said U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway in St. Louis.
The important thing to note is that the site is not based in the U.S., and the people that were arrested do not live in the U.S. Bitmain, as well as many non-U.S. exchanges and banks, don't want to have to comply with New York or U.S. laws, and they don't want their executives to be arrested if they go to the U.S., so they don't allow New York or U.S. customers. If you really want to complain, you should complain to the State of New York about their laws preventing you from using these companies.

I can't speak about any place other than Canada. Last time I checked internet gambling was legal in Canada, and we're not "charging/going after" any of the online gambling sites. For example I am still legally able to play on PokerStars for money, where as my American brethren are not. As close as Canadians are to Americans, I would be surprised if they banned Canadians as well. There isn't that many of us LOL and we're not likely to go after them!

What kind of logical connection does online gambling have on Bitmain or Hashnet? It does not fall under the same laws. Betonsports is not a Bitcoin gambling site, but the people who ran it do have criminal records. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BetonSportsMaybe the PBOC has something to do with this.

It demonstrates the reality that anyone in the world that breaks a U.S. law could be prosecuted. A company in China selling litecoins to a person in New York is guilty of "conducting unlicensed virtual currency business", and the company and its employees can be fined or end up in prison.

Well I guess the reason was the political relation between two countries. China and US has been in conflict due to Chinas attitude towards the allied countries as well as they are a threat to US economy. But I have no proof whatsoever that this is the reason why bitmain has banned USA from using their services. Another factor could also be the policies and regulations in the USA that is not friendly to hashnest giving them a hard times. But anyway the United States of America are not a major user of hashnest product and so it is not a big issue to them. We just hope that they will also ban their services in Asian countries since that will be very problematic since hashnest has become the major provider of mining hardware in that region.

I think it will be great if you can show the OP some proof if you have any handy. I will suggest he uses a VPN to disguise his location and use an IP address from other parts of the US not affected by the ban and it might work.

Well the only proof i can offer is if everyone in the USA use their web site not there ios/android app. Log on go to the wallet page and hit the deposit button, i have a few links in other post were others have verified they are getting the same message when trying using the web site and hitting the deposit button. Now as far as getting around it, its simple they are not even bothering blocking the ltc/btc address from the ios app. And using a vpn/proxy works great too, but this could be a prelude to them ip banning/closing all US accounts. Either way they lost 3 btc of hash power yesterday. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=766448.msg19903921#msg19903921https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1864920.940Icon

But how can they arrest and prosecute the people behind an "illegal service" selling Litecoins to a person in New York of they are in China? The story you quoted said the CEO and 3 others of the illegal gambling website were arrested by the Department if Justice in Dallas. That is within their jurisdiction, while China is far away. How do you assume the US will arrest someone from China for crimes that are not large enough to make it worth it to come after them.

It's shitty that everyone around all of the US is going to have to suffer because of New Yorks shitty politicans love with regulating something that the rest of the country hasen't come to yet, if Washington politicans don't see Bitcoin as a threat then NY politicans shouldn't really be worrying about it in the least. I can only think that some of the big banks went ahead and got this all done, but then again why not just do it a national level if you're going to do it-- I just don't get what was done in the least when it comes to NY's Bit License.
Sucks, fucking hate this state sometimes. I've complained many times and it's not going to lead anywhere, no one cares about us.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but in light of what just happened with BTC-e, Bitmain was probably prudent to disable the deposits for US customers. From the statement the court put out on this, the US intends to go after anyone doing business with US citizens, who are not properly licensed. Bitmain is probably not being diligent enough. US customers can still deposit via the iphone app. US customers can still participate in the markets. US customers can still use a VPN with a non-US ip to make a deposit. Bitmain's KYC and AML policies are extremely weak, as well... Good news for Bitmain, is that I do not see the Chinese government being overly cooperative with the US for extradition and forfeiture. (Could be wrong about this though.)
