It's just an odd thought that I just had, while reading the 3 companies rating thread.

Could it be that Avalon is late with B2 & B3 because they are developing new much more efficient V2 chips and close to the finish line and want to use these new chips ? Like a 2 slot 100Gh machine, 400W or even better ?

B1 buyers will not be pissed (except for the few that got it late or not at all), since they already have been mining a nice amount of BTC.

B2/B3 buyers will soon forget their grief, since they will get a better machine and recoup the lost time and BTC.

The chip buyers will probably get V1 chips, and that's ok. The chip price is reasonable IMHO. And it would be odd if they would create a huge competition for themselves.

I know they are not in it for the money, still who would make their own business hard ?

I am selling in stock OneStringMiner boards, based on the Bitfury chips. Have a look here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495536.0

They said that they will keep the current lineup of chips on sales until at least the end of the year, so i don't think that they will release a lower-nm lineup anytime soon.
I think that everyone was fine with receiving a batch 2 from march to april and a batch 3 during this month, so why going into problems if the roi is finally the same?

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)
Hashfast.org - Wiki for screwed customers

B2 is identical to B1. B3 might have a different, smaller case, don't think it was finalised. B4 will likely have the half size avalons.

Seriously doubt they would turn around and NRE a new mask at a lower fab node so quickly.

But I admit I'm not sure how much more the NRE is as your fab node shrinks.  double each node?  exponential?

They'd be spending a few million, bare minimum, for marginally (relatively speaking compared to the leaps of cpu->gpu->fpga->asic(any nanometer-node)) little return.

think of it this way - ASIC Miner is all capitalism, all the way down, and i think they even have a slower/more power hungry ASIC than avalon?  they haven't re-invested into a better / more efficient / faster node.

They have already paid the NRE to develop their gen 1 chips.  I dont see them going away anytime soon.

A die shrink from Avalon's 110nm to 90nm or even 65nm would not cost millions. http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=73 (that said I am certain batch 2 and 3 will be on the same 110nm).

Just saying tell that to the guys still  waiting for batch 1 that they are only waiting 3 weeks. b3 shipping is unknown now as is chips.

I'll be first in line when they announce taking orders for a die-shrunk Avalon.

Yes very likely because they need to be more competitive in the market
