Blackstone left the core team to continue developing as a community developer. He announced hiring another developer, so his continued contribution to the project now stands at 3 developers for the OSM. This is the only "leaving" member.
New devs are being onboarded, starting  with long time core member Pixxl being a full time employee of OPL as of the 1st of this month.
Updates will return, but not in the form of monthlys. After the initial announcement at the end of this month, the CEO wishes to update people as much and often as possible, to promote transparancy and such.
Investors (read ODN holders) will be one of the 3 core audiences for the OPL to focus on

I am very happy to read such information about Obsidian. Now I am definitely sure that the price of the coin will be restored.

We need to use the current market state to our advantage, every thing has been affected, so if we focus on the good things about obsidian and getting that info out there, people will start buying. Odn is attractive! Very attractive. Low supply, low price, working product, MN, privacy based...

So what's the deal with this project? I keep hearing so many weird things - software beta didn't work, devs are leaving, etc? I'm not an investor but I was always interested in using Obsidian when it came out because I think it's a brilliant idea.

I agree, the latest news is greatly disappoint us. But I think this is a temporary phenomenon. At the bottom of patience is gold.

I think the decline is not too big, because the market is indifferent. Unless there is a very good price to rise.
