Not all wallet developed by the team is safe. Other wallets created by them has a lot of bugs and sometimes your transactions doesn't go through when you use their wallets. The good side on this is that, you can easily contact them about your issues and they can fix it immediately.

In my opinion,I love my ledger nano/ trezor.  of course you have to use it in some cases not all with MEW to access some token based coins. It secure fast and provides protection against phishing. Which hackers have used a lot of late to steal millions of MEW coins using a fake www address. SO be very careful, make sure your going to the real site and don't clink any forum or troll box, email links when dealing with your coins.

For Erc-20 token, I think the best wallet is myethwallet. It is security and easy to use. If you want to use a wallet to take all the altcoins no matter it is erc-20 or not, maybe a hard wallet is a good choice to you.

For ether, I prefer MyEtherWallet.  I've been using this wallet since I earned altcoin and until now, I am satisfied with the service it offers.  I am comfortable also with its security features and access features which I found safety from hackers.  It can also easily store different altcoins and erc-20 tokens.

On the other hand, I also used to store some of my ether into my local wallet which is coins.ph.  Here in the Philippines, coins.ph is the most trusted wallet for both ether and bitcoin.
