Great, thanks so much for the info. I've downloaded Electrum and going to proceed to transfer my BTC out of Coinbase. (have more questions now about Electrum wallet options ... but will find the right place on the forum to post) regards

I second Electrum Wallet as well. One of the best features is that it will also integrate with hardware wallets like Ledger Nano S, and Trezor.

Make sure your that the any send or receive transaction have 6 confirmations, due increased risk of confirmations disappearing.

market crashing again, why ?
Because of the unexpected and unwanted Bitcoin fork at August 1st, aka Bitcoin Cash (BCC) shitcoin, looks like a few people is trying to manipulate the market to rebuy cheap real Bitcoin in the near future, why do things right if they can cause caos instead, things are gonna get crazy because of this BCC trash. thank you for the explanation

From any news source you came with this information. It is clear so far that there will be a split, and will be two - six bitcoin forks.

First off thanks hugely for this guide! Truly helped piece a lot of the puzzle together with this upcoming madness.
That being said if we transferred our BTC to a hardware wallet will we receive identical amount of BCC there too? Or are there steps we need to take to make sure this happens? Kind of sucks that a fork is going to occur but its better than the UAHF I think

If i transfer my bitcoin to a paper wallet created by bitaddress.org, I should be good correct?
I send the btc to blockchain.info and instantly get it out of there on a paper wallet.
I do not trust blockchain.info to store for longer than a few seconds its just very convenient to use for the paper wallet.

If I use electrum wallet, how do I claim my altcoin?
what altcoins? there are different ones. usually when they do an airdrop (giveaway) they require you to sign a message from your keys. go to your address tab (press Ctrl+A to see it if you don't) and right click on any address you have a balance in and click sign a message. the rest is clear. for the particular altcoin called BCC (bitcoin cash) things get a bit complicated. depending on what they will do for replay protection there are multiple ways to protect the BCC tokens and receive them as fast as possible to sell while it is worth something. the good news is you don't need to sign message, your will have the same amount there too. but the bad news is if you don't use the replay protection stuff you will lose that airdrop https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/56867/bitcoin-cash-replay-protection/56874the best thing is to wait until then to see even if it happens or not. then surely there will be a walkthrough to claim them easier for beginners.
