So to recap:

Theymos told you to keep your BTC at home.

I told you, to consider keeping your BTC at an exchange that will handle the split in your favor.

Those who followed my advice AND picked the right exchange (like Kraken and not Poloniex) made money already.
The rest, will be able to sell 1 BCC for $50 when the exchanges open for the inflood.

Have a nice day.

Wow this really is wild stuff and actually why I cam to the forum.

How do I check to see if my wallet will hold both the currencies? I'll bounce around on their website but does anyone have any pointers? Thanks in advance!

what is your wallet? If you mean to have one app to hold both coins, then afaik Coinomy supports both.

>Try HitBtc this one is the only one i know of that accepts deposits of BCH

viabtc.com is as well, although it doesn't seem you can generate new addresses for deposits.

"Notes:

Confirmation of BCC transactions is hard to expect due to network congestion. We will verify your deposit after your transaction completes 1 confirmations and it’s available for withdrawal after 20 confirmations."

bittrex.com has been accepting "BCC" deposits for around 28 hrs now.  BUT, unlike viabtc or hitbtc, requires full 20 confirmations before you can even trade, so you can't be in a hurry.  prices between exchanges seem to be converging somewhat, fwiw.

BCC shouldn't be used as Bitcoin Cash abbreviation. It's already taken by Bitconnect. Firstly viabtc called as BCC and many exchanges followed them. Later some of them started to use BCH symbol. So far I didn't saw any exchanges using XBC abbreviation

What does this mean on short term?
I have just checked on blockchain.info that mempool has jumped over 40k on 7th Aug. and it's still there.
I thought that this will solve the mempool problem (which is much better compared to May-June), or it just needs time?

As of Block #479707, SegWit (BIP141) has met 95% threshold for the current difficulty period.  It's not officially locked in until the end of the difficulty period which is sometime tomorrow at Block # 479808. There will be a grace period of 1 difficulty period or 2016 blocks to allow miners, wallets, and nodes to get support SegWit. SegWit will be officially activated at Block #481824 which will be sometime around Aug 22nd.

Edit: I found this post which might help add some more clarification. https://medium.com/@jimmysong/segwit2x-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-2mb-hard-fork-27749e1544ce

There have been several posts regarding the fork and segwit. Which one are you referring to in this thread? It's hard to tell since you didn't quote anyone, or are you speaking to the entire thread?

If you are talking about the OP then I doubt theymos will have any problem with that because his goal was to help the community and not to have traffic to the forums, just mention the source. If you are speaking about Jimmy song article that has been posted above, then you will need to ask him yourself in Twitter or in the comments on medium.

BIP 148 is no longer active nor relevant. There is no need to use a BIP 148 supporting wallet.

Bitcoin Cash Update
AUGUST 22, 2017   PETER
We’ve been closely monitoring Bitcoin Cash (BCH) since the hard fork on August 1st and wanted to provide a brief update to our users.

Within the next 8 weeks, we’ll be rolling out limited support for BCH via the settings panel in your Blockchain Wallet. Users with balances of bitcoin in their Blockchain Wallet on August 1st will be able to access an equal balance, as of August 1st, of bitcoin cash.

While no immediate action is necessary, rest assured that your funds are secure. Blockchain wallets are non-custodial and you hold the private keys, meaning you always have full, exclusive access to your funds — which are always accessible with your recovery phrase.
