There are many studies that show that people who want to be in charge at the upper echelons have many character traits of psychopaths. There are good/bad/neutral psychopaths. It is a spectrum like anything else, the amount of convincing and ego and self assuredness required to become a leader is in part psychotic.

We all follow psychotic leaders because we are Sapiens and follow a leader. The vast majority of humans form groups and leaders as their base instinct. Think of tribes in the amazon who have never met any other humans beond their tribe, they do the same thing. Anywhere you go people have leaders. It is how it is.

Until we evolve over the next thousand years and turn into computers more and more, it won't go away.

People are also born with their personality, so I find it interesting that people criticize other personalities but want to accept other things, it is hypocritical. I don't really know too much about American politics, but i've shook many hands over the years. Handshakes are for men is like what sniffing butts is for dogs, on the surface it's a seemingly ridiculous ritual, but it's an important formality that has to be done differently in different situations. People can't be expecting the president of the United States to shake hands like you would with your brother-in-law or a new neighbor.
