Very nice!

Bad weather rolling through town.  Don't be too surprised if there is some unexpected downtime as a result.

Made some tweaks to MySQL to reduce diskio and server load.  Reduced server load by about 60% when lots of people are mining.

Just wanted to pop by and let you know that I am on board, and that this is the first time I have seen my name next to block found Smiley lol...

I wonder, do you fancy helping me tweak my miner a little? I have 2 7970's and I always struggle getting a good hashrate with script..

My current settings per card...

Msi ghz 7970

clock: 855
mem: 1500
guiminer: 7970 (low usage)
Threads: 2

Hashrate = 588

Powercolor non ghz

clock: 830
mem: 800
guiminer: 7970 (low usage)
threads: 2

Hashrate = 564

Windows 7, GUIscrypt alpha, 4gb of ram and an intel i5 cpu...

I can get a little more but I gotta crank everything right up and it doesn't seem worth the extra noise from the fans to get the little increase...

Also whenever I mine scrypt I see that I get loads of blocks on screen, but when I mine with bitminter client I don't get that and I get a better hashrate...

If you can help me out that would be great and as a thank you I will set my donation Wink

Please help cos I don't seem to find anything that works for me... Sad

Well, the first thing you should probably do is switch to cgminer.  I mine with 7950's and I get 630 kh/s out of them so you should be able to do better than that with 7970's.

cgminer is not a gui program, it's command line but it's not all that difficult to get going.

Here's the stuff you need:

1. Cgminer for windows : http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/cgminer-3.1.1-windows.zip
2. My Config file, edit the username and passwords of course : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6PMWmOuapNud3NjajBjQzhBelk/edit?usp=sharing
3. My Batch file : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6PMWmOuapNuTzNuemtFTzcxZkU/edit?usp=sharing

Here's what to do:
1. Extract cgminer-3.1.1-windows.zip into a folder on your desktop.
2. Save the config file and batch file (#2 and #3 above) into the same folder where cgminer was extracted to.
3. Edit the cgminer.conf with notepad and enter your username.workername and password and save the changes.
4. Double click the batch file and see how it runs!

Now that you have it up and running with my settings, you need to learn what the settings are and how to tweak them yourself.

Here's a tweaking guide written by the author of cgminer (If I remember correctly, I copied and pasted it) : https://docs.google.com/document/d/14JJOGkO2t6Oh9CtIsX1Tb5rMfKJsqygkgXDh-uk1D7g

Here's the cgminer thread, scroll down and you can read about what each setting does : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0

Let me know if you need anything else !

The contest is still running.  It is a small pool, but we solve about 140 blocks a day and really what more could you ask for from a pool ?  Smiley

If you'd like to join us we'd love to have you.

Also, I'd like to remind everyone that we do have stratum support working now.  You should consider switching over as it will reduce your stales.  Grin

To switch, just change the port from 8342 over to 3333.  Everything else stays the same.

Ok, the new server is up and running, earlier than expected too.   Hopefully everything will be much smoother than before.  Please report any issues you experience using the ticket system ASAP!!!

Thanks Guys !

The pool's reserve balance is currently about 900 coins.  Won't be long now till we hit 1000 and the contest pays out.

How about we see what this new server can do ?

Good, I'll throw 1.4MH/s at it.

Excellent !  Let me know if you have any issues.

The share difficulty is VERY low.

It's set that way to accommodate slower miners.  If it becomes an issue than I will raise it.  At the moment it's a pretty good compromise until I can get vardiff implemented.

Is it an issue for you ?

Yes, I'm getting quite a few stales.

Turn your scan rate down to 5.  That's where I run mine and I get less than 1% stales.

Also, stratum is coming next, that will drastically reduce stales as well.

Okay, thanks.

Let me know if changing the scan time helps you out.

Nope, 5% stales.

Wolf, did you ever switch over to stratum ?  I think it will reduce your stales quite a bit.

Now that I've gone through 200,000 shares since stratum was enabled, I've got 620 stales, which represents 0.31%

If you're still over 5% there's gotta be something wrong with your configuration, or maybe even your network connection. How have you done on other pools in the past?

Reward based on how many blocks you've found for the pool?

That's a good idea !!

You could also proportion it by the amount of time spent actively contributing to the pool. To give the most loyal a little extra, you could also weigh it towards those who have the most hours. This could also discourage people from joining just for the contest and leaving right after.

I came up with this spreadsheet to demonstrate what I mean:

Hopefully that makes some sense to you.

You'd still have a problem with people mining just for the contest, then leaving. You'd probably want to have a constant contest, where those that log the most hours mining get the most bonus, regardless of hashrate. For example, I mine two hours before the contest payout, I get a little bit, but I keep mining, and the next contest payout, I get a lot more.

That's EXACTLY what I was suggesting.

Love the pool

Love the contest even more (especially since my computer is about as fast as a Commodore 64...and it takes me a week to get 1 BBQ Coin)

Fingers crossed-hoping I win

This pool is great, Im getting shares faster than any other pool that I have used prior

Hey fella, why not treat yourself to a 7950 or even a 7970? Take your computer to a whole new dimension, and hash some nice coins while you're at it! Smiley

Btw if you were part of the competition then you did "win" as the pot was split between us equally regardless of hashing power.

That may well change though, in fact not sure it is even still going...

I have still to set my donation (naughty me!) but I will do that right now while I remember...

Any way glad to have you on board and glad you are enjoying yourself. Smiley
