Hello everyone, i have a question about MyEtherWallet and how it work...
I went to MyEtherWallet.com for creating a new wallet, I write a password, save the private key and the UTC file. Next, I go to "View Wallet Info" and it tell me: "How would you like to access your wallet?"
I select private key method and insert my private key: it enter in my wallet, but something is wierd. I went back and instead of writing my private key for enter in the wallet I changed 1 character and entered in another one that's not mine! Now my question is: everyone could enter in a wallet of another person just trying to change just 1 character and send eth in another wallet? I'm sure that can't be so easy, that's why im asking there. Thanks in advance!  Cheesy

Of course yes, (i)anyone can enter a wallet of another person there, (ii)but the matter is if it corresponds to another wallet when you change just 1 character there and I dunno if its possible.(iii) And you can't send eth in another wallet if the (ii) fails. (iv) I dunno if this is the right board of this thread, maybe you can move this to service discussion? Not sure or altcoin discussion instead.

Out of my curiosity I have tried this kind of thing which I do changed some values on my private keys and it did access some new eth address but I strongly believe no matter how you do change it you cant find an address that have some coins on it. I know whats on your minds and feels like you would like to search up wallet addresses with having a balance. They do already got rid into this kind of plan and it wont really work out.

My intention wasn't to find a wallet with some ethereum to steal them, I tried to understand how much I'm safe from people that want to do this and if there are any method to protect my wallet the best as I can from this people. Anyway thanks everyone for help, I feel so much better knowing that it's not that easy to enter in a wallet just changing a character of the private key. Have a nice day Smiley

That is indeed risky but most of the time changing one character doesn't lead to other wallet's pvt key. I don't know your case but I never saw anything like that before.
Well we have a working solution for it, use keystone file and you are much more safe than pvt keys.

No you can find another address just by changing some characters from last but it is never to easy to find an address with eth balance or an address that was previously being used.

It is really difficult to find some address which has a balance just by changing few chars.

Here is reddit thread about in Bitcoin but it will help you to answer most of your doubts if you come up with : https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1jrzr3/what_are_the_chances_of_guessing_a_random_private/

I do understand your point and we do really have the same thing on our mind on which we do try out to test it out if its possible for our private keys to be exposed. Thinking off that there are lots of generated address on the network and hitting them or getting them with random privatekeys is just like finding a needle over in a haystack.

Have a look at this joke site.

It generates all of the Bitcoin addresses and their respective private keys as you go through the pages.

Now go a few hundred pages in or so and click on the addresses.  Do you see any with funds in them?  You don't, because the number of possible addresses and private keys is so ridiculously huge that it's practically impossible to find the private keys of a properly generated wallet.

The same applies with ETH.  Cryptocurrencies are extremely secure until strong developments in quantum computing many years from now, which can be fixed easily.

You can barely manage to access a wallet with coins in it and you have almost 67-70! ways of guessing a right private key to an account with coins and that's almost trying all your life. The same way is with blockchain private keys. Barely these keys are crackable while guessing an 8-10 character password is easier and hence accounts do get hacked. In any case, myetherwallet is too vulnerable to these attacks and they need to start having wallets with 2FA protection.

Looks like its not safe to use the wallet of ethereum there if just changing few character and you got a new wallet it means our funds is not safe there. .
Anytime other people can just make a new tools that can use the privakey generates a new privatekey until they found a wallet that has balance that anytime they can steal the funds..
Not a good idea to use ethereum in case if we are holding our ethereum in one wallet. .

Oh great, if you're too that afraid you can download the Myetherwallet's page and then generate it offline. No matter what, other people can't see your private key and only you can do that. I bet you don't know Myetherwallet anymore.

Not a good idea to use ethereum in case if we are holding our ethereum in one wallet. .
But, that's better than store it on exchange.

You can view them actually. But it is up to it only. Thinking of the possibility that you can withdraw the balances? I think that would be impossible, unless you are one of the hackers that have been harvesting ETH in million dollars these past weeks. Because you need more than a private key for you to be able to withdraw.

If you only change one character on private key and then we can hack myether wallet, then the result is already a lot of myether wallets that have been hacked. Why do not you think clearly? If you believe in it, you should try it there and I'm sure you will not find a wallet containing coins there.
The security of a wallet would not be that easy to be hacked, the existence of a private key is for stronger security. You better need to learn more here. Good luck Cheesy
