LTC uses scrypt which is NOT the same as SHA-256 which BTC uses. These will not work for LTC.
As to earning the BTC back, one unit will pay for itself in 161 days at current difficulty levels. According to the profit calculator @ bitcoinx these should consume around 1 cent of power a day (@ 15 cents a KW)...I'd like to see a GPU match that

These are real and already being tested in Australia. If you were in the market to upgrade your GPU miner(s), this is the only way to go if for immediate upgrade. Your alternative is paying 50BTC for an ASICMINER Blade Erupter (10GH/s). QG Who is supplying these in Australia ?

To be honest... I'd like to get in on the group buys but I'm still stuck in the newbie level and can't post or contact those organizers. I built a GPU rig with 4 7970 but I would grab these USB sticks in a heart beat... then finally be able to remove the existing power-sucking-portable-heater-box out of my basement .... hopefully my jalapenos arrive sooner rather than later... and then I'll kick these USB sticks along to a friend.

No reason to buy this. It only costs $100 less than a 7950, does 300 less mh/s, and has little to no resale value.
Why does this have no resale value? Do they get used up?

too expensive for only 300mh/s with asics coming out.
Yea might as well buy a half-descent GPU as at least you could use it for gaming or resell to gain some bucks back. When ASIC's finally arrives i don't see why anyone would buy a USB miner except for maybe novelty purposes. This is my thought as well, especially considering they'd have no use after. It's not like you can unplug them when they're obsolete and then use them for some other purpose.

I suppose you could mine for a month, then immediately resell the device at full price. Net profit of $30-$60.
Not really a wise investment though, lol.

In 6 months, difficulty will have increased dramatically especially with all the new ASICS coming on to the market and so this device is unlikely ever to repay it's investment. Better to invest electricity in old graphics cards now which are cheap, as they might break even at least even so you're just converting electricity in bitcoins rather than making a profit. In the case of the USB Block Erupter, it would make more sense to keep hold of your 2 BTC because you'll never get it back with this device. Maybe at 0.5 BTC there would be a chance to earn it back, but not 2 BTC.

Who is supplying these in Australia ?
Kano is a developer, he got sent one to test/develop on. He's also got sent a BFL Jalapeno http://www.kano-kun.net/?p=56 If you're interested in getting one of these in Australia, check out the group buy I'm organising (link in signature). Or if you're in another country, check out one of the other group buys on posted in the Custom Hardware forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=76.0QG

$220 USD is a bit much for 300Mh/s, when a 7950 is 280$+ and will easily double that.

and use 100x as much power (and thus 100x higher electrical bill).

What makes LTC mining impossible? The GPU RAM? Why is GPU RAM so expensive? Anyone have a link explaining this?

A BTCit pricey but perhaps an additional small feature in design/functionality can make it a cool trinket.
Very interesting product, but since I'm not paying for electricity, GPU remains my choice.

The Block Erupter USB series is the second major product of Bitfountain. Each one mines at more than 300MH/s, powered only by the USB port. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195004.0 for more details. http://i39.tinypic.com/10hlifk.jpgHashrate: >300MH/s Power Consumption: USB Power 500mA (2.5W) Cost Price: 1.99BTC each (min. 300 units, or 597BTC) Your best bet to get your hands on these USB Miners early is to join a group buy. Check out the Custom hardware forum ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=76.0) to join group buys to purchase units. You should always read all the terms of the group buy before committing to an order and always insists on escrow. Happy mining, QG Thats an awesome picture
