If the team is good and the plan is good -there is still some room to fail because it depends on the money that they gather for their project as well.

If they knew that the coins they are investing have a potential to increase its price, then they are going to buy more of this. It also depends on the supply of the coins, if lack of supply, the price will increase. That's only my opinion.

i think using ico is not the good way to invest, ico is very profitable for long term investment, we can only wait for those coin to rise in the future to sell, but one problem, if that ico coin price drops we will lost our money, or many ico are scam take away our investment money. so ico is not exactly good choice to invest.
