I'm aware that all nodes are already registered, but what happens if a current node goes offline? Does a spot open up for registration?

Once a node is registered, I do not believe it becomes unregistered even if it stops running. No additional slot opens up until the next registration period.

The actual node registration gets filled rather quickly (usually 5-20 minutes), so you have to be ready to go at the bell. Even then, its been roughly a ~30% chance to get a node registered due to the volume of people trying to register at the same time.

If it is so, do the new registration periods being announced somehow?

The total supply of TNT is 1,000,000,000, of which the circulating supply is currently 428,481,269 tokens. 350,000,000 tokens were reserved to incentivize the ecosystem (i.e. payment to node operators) and is set to be released over an extended time period (originally ~8 years, with 6500 TNT rewards every 30 minutes, decreasing the reward by 20% every 200 days... not sure what the final decision is after the team began scaling the network size and adjusted the rewards).

The market cap will be function of the coins in circulation and the price per TNT, but the total number of tokens will never exceed 1,000,000,000.

I think this is a main problem with lotto system - someone have few rewards in a month with one node and somebody zero with 10. Just no luck. )
