port - is for the wallet to talk to other wallets p2p style and make the network run
rpcport - is for your miner to connect to the wallet, also receives commands to control the wallet (so have a good password)

What the hell do people need mining guides for, for each coin that comes out? It's the same damn thing, only thing different, is the nodes and port numbers

I would guess that there are people like myself who have little experience with solo mining, or who are just new to the community in general.  Try to have an open mind, no need to noob bash.

Please note MINGW32 cross compile environment for windows is NOT needed for linux d or -qt coin tools! Huge bunch of crap.
