Hey there. New to the BitcoinTalk forums, happy to be here Smiley

I'm a student in the UK. I get a few hundred in cash (£250ish) for christmas + birthday money every year and was thinking about investing in Bitcoin. Would you say it is worth investing as a student, especially now with the market rising around BIP91? If so, how much would you recommend? And how much profit would I be able to make within half a year or so?
It is better that you want start investment and earnings in this field at very low age but you should be careful that it is that field where it is not easy to make money as people are saying because here you need lot of experience and also to go through the profit and loss back to back to understand the market fully .
So here instead to think to invest your money in btc only , try to invest in multiple coins , so that you can lower the risk of investment loss .
But you also should be careful that if you get loss in a coin then don't sell because it is truth in every coin that one day it will rise , so hold until you get profit ( That needed patience to hold that coin for long run ) .

Yes ofcourse , it will help you in your future life and you will learn how to be a smart investor/ businessman because it also have those values in the road for you to learn.
Speaking on the profit it depends ,the best is scattering your money in different altcoins not only in bitcoins .Yoir profit will depends on it you may able to earn 5x or more than 10x within half year.

You should be a long term holder in bitcoin, if you are here for short term investments then you should invest in an ICO which most of the people does to get around 2x return.

Its easier to learn when you are young, people deal with losses easier, people stand up faster after fall when they are young. Point is that everything is easier when you are young and fresh, so there is no better time for investing.
About profit is really hard to say, there is many variables. If you just plan to buy and hold then you can count on little profit, maybe double or triple, but if you plan to invest in bitcoins and then to invest bitcoins in some business or service then literally everything can happen and you can make a huge profit.
Don't hurry, learn about bitcoins, buy some bitcoins and then when you're sure in yourself make a move and maybe you will have luck and make a fortune.

And don't forget to have some fun while you're at it. You can even invest in some gambling sites and just let your money grow in there. The risks associated with such investments will always be there, but even if you lose some, you will have a lot of time to recover whatever losses you incur. Or if you don't have anything in mind right now, just hodl and see how the price moves in the next few months. That will give you enough time to learn more about bitcoin and crypto currencies in general.

First i would recommend for you to wait, wait to see what will happen with bitcoin after segwit coming on 1st of August. If everything works fine, i would suggest for you to invest that money in to bitcoin. So far bitcoin was always good investment, and people that invested in it did not regret it. Price has been rising, and i believe it will continue to do so.
The past two weeks have seen the numbers go anywhere from just above $2,000 just under 3,000. So it is highly conceivable that if you absolutely need to get your money back out you could buy in today at 2700 and when you try to buy back out 48 hours from now you might be sitting at 2500 2300 even as long as 2100.

It is also possible you could buy it at 2700 today 48 hours later sell out at 3,000. But that's the point in a short-term. The volatility of the price is just too wild to count on. That's also your back up though, if you do go nuts by a bunch of big going to find it as drunk if you can hold out for a couple of days a week month of the most the most likely it's going to recover well past where you started at.

yes, definitely. Invest as much as you are willing to lose and enter the ecosystem. it is different when you own some btc
It is not about that that people should lose to investing in bitcoin. Because it is up to people that how much they are. How much they can that they are even able to have money in their hands. Because if you are student you should invest for part time. That you will have money for your fees and hostel fees etc. because this is important for all those student who are out of home and belong to poor family.

You should not try to earn your living expenses through investments..... Investing should only be done with the amount that is left after all living expenses have been taken care of. The only exception to this rule is an "investment" in good education.

Ya true.If you keep your living Expenses in inversement means. It will affect your day to day life and kill the peace in your life.So try to inverse the money apart from the basic expenses. I was use to do like that so.In bitcoin their is no loss.Due to some fluctuations you got loss so,it will not affect your peaceful life.If you start to inverse from student stage means ,you will became a richest person.

The fact is that even today students are very much starting to understand the crypto currency. And thus, they themselves provide for life and for learning. I am very glad that there is such an opportunity for young people.

You have to make this decision on your own in the end. This is a forum for Bitcoin advocates (in general) so the majority will agree that it's worth investing some money in. Never more than you can lose, and have realistic expectations. Welcome!

Actually, most of the students have absolutely no clue what cryptos are about. They've heard about Bitcoin here and there, but that's about it. I only know one single person that is dabbling in Bitcoin, and he's in Finance to begin with.
Of course, this is bound to change soon, as cryptos are slowly reaching the mainstream.

I am student myself and my first investment is Bitcoin only. Bitcoin is the best investment to start with because of the risk factor. Bitcoin has always been profitable if you hold it for sometime. I have already doubled my initial investment in just 3-4 months. I would definitely recommend you to start investing in Bitcoin. In half a year you might double your investment. How much you want to invest depends upon how much money you won't be needing soon. I can assure you that you would not lose anything if you will wait for 5-6 months.

No doubt, Bitcoin is lucrative investment with not much technical jargon or knowledge as required in Stock Markets. As a student, it is indeed a worthy investment and can come up as aid in shaping your future. Although, 250 pounds isn't big enough investment to expect huge but still decent start. As community has positive approach towards upcoming forks ( unlike USAF & BCH which attracted only negativity ) so you can expect 200-300% return on your investment in one year.

You could invest in BTC, ETH and maybe long term ICO's startups.

Many of them are very creative, transparent with good product&idea.

So you win with BTC buy on long term and ICO tokens which could rise in next years  x20 x50   + bitcoin price will rise so you win double time  Grin

Investing in bitcoin is quite good to earn more money but then if you weren't aware about somethings then investing is also kind of risky. You might lose or not. Trading is also good if you want. But you must be a risk takers.

as a student you shouldn't invest your money but if it's your own choice its ok no problem but investing in bitcoin is not easy that most of people said. when you placed your money in wrong investment you potentially lose your money. so only trust proofed place of investment.

I think you're mixing up a few things here. Investing in Bitcoin can't result in a loss of money, unless you lose access to your private keys, or you get hacked in one way or another. What you are referring to are optional investments, such as investing in casino bank rolls, ICO's, altcoins, cloud mining, etc. I consider these investments to be completely useless, as they require you to expose yourself and your Bitcoins to unneeded risks. If you just stick to investing in Bitcoin itself, and keep holding these coins for the long term, you (1) aren't exposed to unneeded risks, and (2) you actually will see your wealth grow. People that want to invest in other assets and services anyway, then they are free to do so, but they shouldn't complain when things go wrong.
