Good news!

BIP 91 has now met the required signalling level for the period (80%) and has now locked in.Miners have until this time to upgrade their nodes. Blocks not signalling BIP 141 (bit 1) will be rejected after activation.

Bitcoin to the moon!

Many people do not understand that BIP 91 meeting the threshold is is not warranty that Segwit will be active. Miners have to signal for bit 1 and less than 50% are signalling for it.   BIP 91 is enforced by hash power alone. This means that a majority of miners (by hash power) could back out of BIP 91.  I think this is what the whales want.  Drive the price up with this supposed "good" news then pull the rug out from those that have not done their due diligence!

The BIP91 phases :

A - 336 block Signalling phase
B - Lock-in period
C - 336 block grace period
D - Enforcement -- the rejection of non-SegWit blocks until BIP9/BIP141 locks in and activates SegWit on regular Core nodes

We just finished the Lock-in phase, so we need to wait for another few days to see if the regular nodes will follow suit. ^hmm^

so this is news behind BTC jump?
Probably, this have increased confidence among bitcoin traders. Possibility of network split during segwit activation is really thin now because most of the mining pool have started to strongly support segwit2x.

Isn't segwit2x only good for miners and bad for everybody else? That's what I've read.

aren't mienrs or at least soem of them against the second part of segwit2x, which is the hard fork to 2mb? many miners were never pro hard fork to only 2mb

miners just want higher fee no matter what, and you have bitmain with their own fork

Wrong... Go read more. Segwit 2X is good for everyone... The main contention was there was a camp that is okay with high and slow fees vs a camp that is not okay with high transaction fees(miners, retailers and people like myself)..

With only Segwit we get limited short benefits but with Segwit 2X everybody gets what they want.

Why would people want high fees and slow fees? There has got to be more to the story than that. I thought Segwit 2x makes the block bigger so that only big money goes through and people making small payments have to wait longer or pay more in order to execute a transaction quicker.

I hope that way, it's not the time for new bitcoin users like me to get BIP 91 storm, proved that the price of the bitcoin is getting stronger so the BIP91 signal keeps decreasing.

what you are suggesting here is entering conspiracy theory realm without any proof and only guesses.
so far what we see is important not what may happen. and what we see is that majority of the network is happy about SegWit and want it. on top of that majority of the miners want SegWit and apparently they want the 2M HF afterwards too.

and so far no one has changed their minds about SegWit.

273 blocks remaining. And after this the chain will start rejecting non-Segwit blocks. Just checked Coin Dance website, and it says 100% of the blocks mined today supports SegWit2x (intention). BIP 141 is also at around 61% support, which increases the chances that BCC will be created on August 1.

I am totally confused. So if the initial segwit is activated, does this mean that things will move faster and cheaper for everyone? Or will these segwits, either one, just be of benefit to the miners and mining pools?

Not to torture yourself guesses it is best to wait. There are very little time. For me the most important thing that bitcoin is alive and there will be no separation. With the advantages of this transition we will learn after the 1st of August. From us nothing depends.

Ok heres another confusing thing for me, where does the hard fork to 2mb blocks come in here? Has it yet to be coded and are the miners trusting the developers to really follow the NYA? What if they back out from it?

Yes, these are few steps which are required to complete the BIP91 and we do not care if they takes even few days to complete. The main point is that we have BIP91 locked in and now there is zero percent chance of BIP148 or hard fork.  This is a sign of relief for many bitcoin holders as they were fearing a loss in coins and value in case a hardfork was locked in.

Miners could be false-signaling and then change their position in the last second, but this would be totally insane, whoever is involved with this would lose all credibility so I give this a small chance of happening. If it happens, most of the community would agree on getting rid of the miners that make such a bitch move.

At this point BIP148 should kept until segwit is actually working.
