Amazing move mr. Bitmixer! We cannot deny the fact that your service were sometimes used in gamblings, buying illegal substance and crime payments and corruption. Great move there. Hope your competitors would do the same, this would clean the reputation of crypto currency.

Hi all!
Despite the huge profit we earn, we are closing our activity. Let me explain why.

I'm bitcoin enthusiast since 2011. When we started this service I was convinced that any Bitcoin user has a natural right to privacy. I was totally wrong. Now I grasped that Bitcoin is transparent non-anonymous system by design. Blockchain is a great open book. I believe that Bitcoin will have a great future without dark market transactions. You may use Dash or Zerocoin if you want to buy some weed. Not Bitcoin.

I hope our decision will help to make Bitcoin ecosystem more clean and transparent. I hope our competitors will hear our message and will close their services too. Very soon this kind of activity will be considered as illegal in most of countries.

Cheers,
Bitmixer.IO

what you just said disgusts me. you are one disgusting person.

he/she/they don't really understand Bitcoin just as little he/she/they don't understand cash money.

They should close the Switzerland's banks though since they could be used by secret services, washing money, crimes,....
The service is used for mixing and keeping your money secret from others - privacy -, it is not intended to be used for corruption. And like any service it could be used in a negative way.

In case you don't know yet, Switzerland is no longer a safe heaven for anybody.
This is why bank accounts in tropical islands are multiplying like wabbits.

The germans did the first move and I don't think the US lagged too much behind in acquiring very bit of info it needed.

Not amazing, I will call this very Smart move. Look so much websites were seized, I believe 90% of money on that dark websites were from by using bitmixer. So if they did that and seized so known markets, it would be easy to arrest bitmixer's owner. So this man stopped playing dirty game and end everything. I appreciate this, he is smart because imagine, he destroyed ultra profit machine but he is safe now.
Also this doesn't means anything will change, there will be more mixers, not reputable but people won't have any other choise but to trust some of them.
Bitcoin will be used like it was used already because of it's nature.

I hope this was the case. Because that's pretty much the only reason I could tolerate. Black Market Reloaded closed their doors similarly. SR got shut down so BMR would have become the next greatest dark market. The admin was smart enough to close the operation gracefully, everyone got their money out from the market and none suffered any damages.

Yeah, but I think it's neither the general problem of bitmixer, nor the problem of bitcoin mixers at all.
Folks using bitcoin as a mean for criminal activity could and will eventually use cryptocurrencies that don't have a public blockchain at all.
For me, bitcoin mixing as such is a way of giving legit users a chance for fulfilling their right of privacy.

Exactly this. For fuck sake Bitcoin transactions are public! They absolutely need mixer services because if you even send your coins to a friend they will easily see how much bitcoins you have left that went to a change address. Blackmailers and ransom software can abuse this to extort more money from their victims. By closing your service you are helping the criminals! Thank god projects such as Byteball are gaining traction. Byteball's blackbytes have even better anonymity than zcash, best anon coin out there. Payments are truly peer-to-peer and only the transaction hash is stored on the public ledger, everything else remains private.

the operator's personal freedom is a little more important than the privacy of a bunch of strangers. they owe nothing to no one. their obligations were fulfilled and hopefully they'll live a peaceful life.

Tumbling large amount may end the same if you receive large amount at one address.

ChipMixer tumbling ends this way. You receive different sizes of chips and your wallet spends the smallest chip. $10 = 3 mBTC. Your friend may see you have spent your 4 mBTC chip.

With the most trusted and likely most used mixer gone,  be careful of scams claiming to be able to take their place.   There are already scam Bitcoin mixers out there, do your research.

I totally agree that it's the operator's free decision to stop his service, if he feels to do so.
However, this doesn't condemn or change the usefulness of bitcoin mixers themselves as an optional privacy enhancement.

I have read your post with great interest, and I can see the heavy moral questions that arise from your internal debate. However, is it true that a catalyser to your decision, was in fact a claim made by US law enforcement?

I think Bitcoin gives us the power to decide whether you want to be public about your stake in it or not, and this is quite a primal right every individual should have.

For example, what if a guy from the pizza shop or some taxi driver i just payed with my bitcoin wallet, would know that I hold 10,000 BTC?

How many dangerous situations that would create?
Would I ever be able to use my crypto wallet safely (not from hackers, but from street criminals) again?

That's one reason Monero exists. Nobody should have to worry about the clerk they just paid seeing their balance and deciding to pay them a visit later with a crowbar to "pry"out their private key from them. Privacy is good for everyone, not just criminals.

For those who want to go against the advice of the OP (Bitmixer) and still think Bitcoin mixers will make them private, please see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2042470.msg20383605#msg20383605
