I read about VPS again and again, but is it really necessary to run the secure node on a VPS or can I also just run it on my home cumuter?

https://blockoperations.com/how-to-build-and-operate-a-zencash-secure-node/Secure Node Criteria Each of the following criteria must be met and maintained for a Secure Node to be eligible to recieve a share of the reward pool. These items may be added to or modified at any time. Must maintain a balance of at least 42 ZEN in a 'stake' transparent address Must maintain a minimum balance of .001 ZEN in a private address on the node for challenges Must be available with minimal exception time for at least 92% of an earning period (appox. 1 day) Must perform a challenge in under 300 seconds Allow 8 or more peers by allowing public connections on the configured zen port (default 9033) Must maintain a valid public SSL cert properly configured for zen Must not fall behind the current block height by more than 4 blocks Must update to current versions of the zen and/or tracker software within the posted time frame Note: only one public Ip address is allowed per node (IPv4 or IPv6).
You need to have IP which do not change, and you will get one node per IP. This is why VPS is much better solution. Not to mention you need Virtual machine, good CPU, Ram.. This must be a dedicated machine anyway

why did the price spike over last 4 hours am i missing something?
PalmBeach suggested 2 cryptos - ripple and second (hidden name yet) - it was about zencash. Could someone quickly tell what that PalmBeach stuff is about and why it matters so much for Zencash? I missed the information. They called another coin early on which mooned, so they have the ear of people. Surprised it took that for people to take notice of ZEN. What does that mean? Like did they call some coin to be their own creation or what? I don't understand what you are saying. They essentially recommend a coin (monthly) to invest into that they predict will be successfull in the future. That brought a lot of attention from people who weren't aware of Zencash. Zencash doesn't need any people to make weird predictions. It's rock solid on its own. And a lot of people already realized the great tech of Zencash or otherwise it wouldn't be a $50 million coin.

I agree completely, believe me I've been mining Zen almost since launched and have accumulated a good amount. I have always liked this project and will continue to support it. I was just explaining to the other guy what it was since he was asking.

Also a great "business model": buy up a coin that you are then going to heavily promote in the near future.

One Veteran’s Air Force Experience Led Him to Start His Own Cryptocurrency
We’re changing the world one block at a time. For me, this is all about creating a system based on strong cryptography that enables beneficial social change. We’re tearing down walls every day and creating an inclusive economic system in which anyone can participate. On a practical level, we’re creating opportunities for people without many, and that’s something I’m very passionate about expanding. Rob Viglione https://tech.co/air-force-cryptocurrency-2017-11

I read about VPS again and again, but is it really necessary to run the secure node on a VPS or can I also just run it on my home cumuter? You do not have to run a secure node on a VPS. You can run it on a home computer. To be more successful, make sure: 1. port forward on your home firewall/router ports 9033 and 19033 to your computer 2. Run it on a 64 bit operating system, linux preferred 3. Buy a domain and create a fully qualified domain name that points to the ip address of your home firewall/router 4. Run the secure node tracker and put the ZEN in the locations you need to for operation.

The problem with home computer, you are exposing your IP address to everyone, and you probably have some crypto wallets there too.

The problem with home computer, you are exposing your IP address to everyone, and you probably have some crypto wallets there too. Not if you have thought through your whole network config. This means on the router you use to create your home network, and on the machine(s) you are creating to add to the node pool(s). Lock down each machine as much as possible, both inbound and outbound, using the built-in firewall tools and use your router to ONLY redirect certain ports to the machine that needs to receive traffic on those ports. You can further lock down the machine(s) by disabling root login, using public/private key pairs for non-root users logging in, locking user passwords on all usernames that don't actually login, unsetting the shells for users that don't actually login (do not need shell access), and making sure to restrict what root-level access is granted to non-root users with sudo. If you keep your wallets on the same machine you use to mine, well, that's probably a bad idea. Keep just enough coin on the machine that is a network node to meet the requirements. Store all your other coin(s) in wallet(s) on another machine.

No mining at the moment.
