Hey guys,

I am genuinely confused about this part. I have bitcoins in my electrum wallet. How can I get bitcoin cash? Now that August 1 has passed there are no Bitcoin cash in my wallet. It still shows just bitcoins that I had before.

Please help me out in simply language what should I do? Should I download the electrum wallet again?

I support original bitcoin and want to just sell Bitcoins cash if I can somehow get it.

cheers!

Well there is no easy method like click here and you have it.Electrum made a public announcement about it.Here is the part the concerns you :

Code:
 1. Install Electron Cash on a machine that does not have your
 Electrum wallets.

 2. Wait until the BCC hard fork has taken place, and a few BCC blocks
 have been mined.

 3. Move all your Electrum funds to a new Electrum wallet. This will
move only your BTC, and not your BCC, because the BCC blockchain has
replay protection. Wait until the transaction is confirmed.

 4. Enter the seed of your (now empty) old wallet or private keys in
Electron Cash. Since the BTC have been moved to a new wallet,
entering your old seed in Electron Cash will not put your BTC funds
 at risk.

Electron Cash seems pretty dodgy. Use something else like Coinomi on your phone.

The Electron Cash dev is anonymous, so... take it for what you will.

So can I import private key to coinomi and get BCH?

Can someone who done this with electrum post step by step how to do this?  This seems very complicated.

Also how long do you have before you can claim the bitcoin cash?  So for example if you have 5 bitcoins in electrum, you get 5 bitcoin cash?  Im confused here so basically its free money for every bitcoin that you have?  Thus if someone has like 100 bitcoins, they are going to get 100 of these bitcoin cash?

On the same subject, I had bitcoin in a multisig (2 of 2) wallet using electrum before the August 2 fork. How do I send my BCH? Electron cash does not provide support for multisig I believe.

I have moved bitcoin to new wallet as per the advice provided, but do not know how to proceed from here.

Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. It is stored on a separate chain so you would have the exact same amount as you do with bitcoin and it would be spent separately. Check out 6Asmodeus6's reply earlier which mentions how you could claim it. It does take some work and requires running multiple wallets.

Apparently support was added in a recent commit. If you download the source from github and run it via source, it may support it now.

It finally worked thanks. I have 3 confirmations so far.

For anyone trying to send multisig BCH, I just followed the instructions on this page after installing Ubuntu on an old laptop I had...

browse to this page:
https://github.com/fyookball/electrum

Follow the instructions under Development version:

git clone git://github.com/fyookball/electrum.git
.
.
.

I had to install some dependencies such as pip etc which wasn't installed on my system.
