Are there any miners out there that will mine ZEC with your CPU? AND has a good hashrate? I used one but I kept getting 0 Sol/s and I don't think that's right. So, I'm looking for another one.

I'm trying it to see what its like. I mean, what if you used a pool? Like Minergate for example? They are a good pool for altcoins.

The CPU should support AES_NI.

Some of the early ZEC miner software supported CPU mining - but the GPU miners quickly outpaced CPU mining to the point it became UNPROFITABLE to bother trying to mine ZEC on a CPU.

I also suggest that if you want to do CPU mining, go Monero aka XMR (or use the NiceHash miner).

maybe 25 cents a day extra.

I decided to mine XMR now. I mine it using the Minergate pool. It's not bad. It's a really good pool to me.

Which miner and CPU are you using now?
I'm mining with Xeon E5-2620 x 2 with Claymore miner, can hash 470 h/s

Minergate's official GUI miner with wallet, Intel Core i5-3210M (same CPU) with 50 H/s.

I need a new laptop. Mine is 4 years old.

Don't do it. Not worth it no matter what your situation is. Mine Monero or a CryptoNight coin and convert it to ZEC is you really want to.

Well I think mining with laptops isn't profitable anymore as you are just risking your device if you really aiming to have good rewards better to invest with new system that will produce good hash.

Intel Core i5 3570 is my choice. Or AMD FX 3850

i was experimenting with cpu mining lately, i7 4790k gets about $0.42 a day via nicehash, miner also gave some errors like: " memory alloc failed: virtualAlloc Failed, starting single thread, no affinitY"  apparently it is using one thread, but if you look at the cpu load - all cores/threads are used... so not sure whats up, did not mess with it too much though

You can't mine ZEC with CPU ,you should try Nicehash or Winminer

You can always try the nheqminer

https://github.com/kost/nheqminer

but I would mine something else with CPU.
I have a spare mobo with an i5 3570 mining  XMR at 156 H/s and XMG at 18kH/s, the whole thing drawing ~58W at wall. The XMG mining doesnt affect the speed of XMR mining and draws only 15W extra.

Fellow miners, get your thens and thans in order and help other forum readers understand what you are writing. Remember the grammar basics:  B larger THAN A (comparator operator). If something THEN ....
