"Buy Bitcoin" sign appearred again today. Buy Bitcoin’ Sign Appears During DOTA International Tournament https://cointelegraph.com/news/buy-bitcoin-sign-appears-during-dota-international-tournament" Bitcoin made an unplanned appearance at the most recent DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) International Tournament, as an audience member held up a ‘Buy Bitcoin’ sign during announcements of the televised event.
Bitcoin has been frequently popping up in unlikely locations. The current stunt, intended to increase awareness of Bitcoin, is not the first of its kind, after an audience member at Janet Yellen’s congressional briefing did the same.
Both events indicate a growing awareness of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies generally. The awareness may be part of the reason for the substantial price increases over recent months, with Bitcoin cresting $3700 today." I expect more signs will pop up in sport events and many other places. It is a way to promote Bitcoin as well as other cryptocurrencies.

Cool way to promote bitcoin but I think some people will get confused first when they see the sign because they dont know what it means. It can still work because people will get curious when they see the sign and maybe they will ask about bitcoin or do research. Its also good that they did it in the dots intl tournament bec the people there should be using bitcoin more.
Lets continue to promote bitcoin so that many others will start using it and bitcoin will grow in many other places.

Not a bad idea but I'm not sure if we really need this promotion and who will pay for that?
We better spred the word "bitcoin" out with our successful achievements. The nature of bitcoin tends to this fact.

Not trying to be a dick, but wtf is a DOTA?
I kid, but joke to illustrate my point. We need bitcoin to be advertised in mainstream venues, to actually increase public awareness. A DOTA tournament, and the folks that would watch a DOTA tournament, pretty much beyond the shadow of a doubt already know what bitcoin is. I mean, a dude held up a bitcoin sign.
We need bitcoin signs a Beyonce concerts. And NBA/NFL games. At the Grammys and Emmys. And not some hastily made school project board job; we need the Foundation to actually sponsor said advertisement, like the hilarious but sad Bitcoin Bowl. It could have worked out great, its just they didnt really try to actually market. It seems they thought people were going to be so amazed at the virtues of bitcoin they would instantly adopt, I guess.. it didnt turn out too pretty, the merchants that pledged to accept btc didnt get customers. also a flawed campaign, because duh someone that would spend bitcoin obviously knows about it.
Le sigh.

I think that guy was only trying to pull a joke or prank on that scene. Maybe it is also an awesome way of promoting, but in my opinion there are so many advertisers out there promoting bitcoins and other alternate cryptocurrencies. If that guy wasn't doing it for fun maybe he's trying to promote it by his own method. Lets just say, users right now are increasing, so you think the news wont be spread basing on those feed backs of all the users? Of course they would share it to someone.

It is all voluntary. The camera captures it and play it on TV. It shows others how "hot" Bitcoin is and establish good promotion.

valid point, but consider this. with all the adoption, if folks were actually using btc, why hasnt the network slowed to a crawl? people are investing into bitcoin, not actually transacting bitcoin. this is not the common public at this point; the usability of bitcoin is still too rough for widespread use. imagine if everyone had bitcoin, and how many times you see threads here screaming "got hacked!" or "got scammed!" . If the average user on here has a higher level of cyber security that the common person, this board would be bedlam with people getting robbed. but back to the topic, viral stuff like this goes a long way. i prefer targeted ad campaigns, but the right piece of media can turn into a meme, disseminate, and become immortal. ask 4chan about pepe but, if you want to promote bitcoin, i guess this isnt that bad of an idea. again, the Foundation, for its own sake, really needs to prioritize public bitcoin education. but if they dont (they wont, and honestly not mad because we need to be better before we go primetime), things like sign bro will be what makes btc take off. but why is the price 4k though??

Not trying to be a dick, but wtf is a DOTA?
i am saying this for those who don't know DotA2 is just a tiny little free-to-play game on this small platform called Steam, and it has so little number of players from all around the world. for example right now there are 12,079,340 unique players online. what is the TI (The International) you ask? oh, nothing. it is just this tiny little tournament that takes place each year like the Olympics but every year and among the top teams around the world who go to US to compete. with live cast while millions of people around the world watch through their game clients, Youtube, Twitch and other places. the prize pool of this tournament is a very small amount of $24,682,864 at the moment and growing as people buy the battle pass which is optional by the way to watch the game.

Ok, this idea could work, but we need to agree to two things:
1. Never put a BTC address on the sign. This isn't about getting some bitcoin dust from a few thousand people, and
2. Agree to talk to our friends and family after they see the sign. Seeing the sign on the TV can still have a limited effect in getting people to act. And action is what we need. When someone says "hey did you see this "Buy Bitcoin" sign?" respond with "yeah...have you bought any yet?!"
Godspeed.

Well also read before investing and anything. Because chances are they may have read it and can be very eager to invest without at least some basic knowledge. From what im seeing there are lot of posts on btc about links and others. Most of them are even referrals with screen shots of money on some sites. I dont know if there are people who are trying to log in on those sites but there are some referral links that are really profiting from new investors.

it does make me happy when I see the phrase "buy bitcoin" in a TI7. Dota2 has a big community and I can ensure that this may make more people wonder what bitcoin is and will attract more people to join to our community. There is only steam accept bitcoin right now but I think that it does support dota2 very much. Therefore, keep working Steam. Bitcoin is the best:D

Bitcoin is indeed the best and if we all keep promoting it this way then I think we will likely win this he world over in no time. I think we should label "but Bitcoin " everywhere possible and lawful so that we can as it were publicize Bitcoin to the Unknown in our respective sphere of influence.

I don't think we should advertise Bitcoin, because newcomers will probably have weak hands and contribute to volatility. When Bitcoin was dropping to below $2,000, social media were full on angry people asking why Bitcoin is falling and if Bitcoin is dead. Most people don't have enough determination to hodl for years, they check price every few hours like if they are going to day trade or something. Bitcoin should be promoted via educated posts and personal conversations, so potential investors can grasp on it's technical basics, and don't do some mistakes like holding coins on exchange, losing they keys and wallets, getting involved in ponzi's and ico's, and so on.

Seeing a Bitcoin fansign is an exciting feeling for me, Even it is a prank or not, but still it is an advertising to me. A crafty and cheap way to market a digital currency. This kind of promotion catches peoples' attention in a different way. Bitcoin is still young, digital currency needs more creative marketers. People in our place need to know more about Bitcoin.

Meh, it's just a stunt. People run through baseball fields naked and some people walk around with signs about 9/11 conspiracy theories. The market speaks for itself. When an asset rises this high this fast, you don't need to wave a sign or advertise it on TV or anywhere else. That make sense? Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing bitcoin stickers on light poles in my town or something like that. I swear I'm the only one who's into bitcoin. I know that's not true, but it feels like it.

This is funny indeed. And I think this is not the first time that we are going to see some stunt being pulled live in TV. Well Dota competition is a good venue to exposed bitcoin as there are a lot of fans of this game and this is also followed in the news lately. I salute that guy for doing this. Maybe this is a good step for making bitcoin globally accepted. Who knows? We all know that we are just starting the revolution and anything that will contribute to bringing awareness to the masses about bitcoin is a welcome addition to the crypto world.

I think that was a good strategy promoting bitcoin. Instead of spending money to go to advertising agencies, holding a banner for the world to see is a good move and I commend that guy for his effort. I wonder if someone will do it in mayweather's fight? All those people who will be watching live on the ringside are rich. They are good targets because most of them are gambler. It's about time they put some of their wealth into btc.

This is a very nice idea! But maybe a lot of people will start talking about it and some people could say that it is like a ponzi-scheme, dont invest on it, bla bla bla. I think the best way to promote bitcoin is through the Tv, social media, or just in movies, everybody watch them. Just seing someone paying with bitcoins on a movie can make the watcher be curious about this new feature and maybe that will introduce him into this world.

This thread should be come the spot where new sightings of "Buy Bitcoin" signs are posted.
Anyone seen any others since the DOTA event? News, golf tournaments, sporting events, concerts, any and all events.
The ultimate would be multiple sightings on some night like New Years Eve, sightings from every party around the world!

This has become a very cute promotion for Bitcoin and as a bonus adding some comedic relief as well. I think websites that has cryptocurrency as one of their topics must include the 'Buy Bitcoin" sign and we should be promoting this on Facebook and Twitter. I am sure that soon big events televised live would be seeing adventurous people raising the sign. This and more can be signs that sooner or later we can be entering the mainstream consciousness of the masses.

I'm a tennis fan so I look forward too signs popping up in Grand Slams. Hopefully, these bitcoin investors can get the support of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. These are the icons of the tennis world. They have millions of followers in Twitter, which make them big influencers. The four of them can help circulate the good word as why people need to consider investing in bitcoin for a better tomorrow. As I see it, ICO needs more channels to promote the real value of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. Everex makes use of bitcoin and ethereum to build a better and quicker remittance system, details here: goo.gl/E2NDF2, but this start-up company alone needs other groups for a successful campaign. The cryptospace world needs more support from businessmen, athletes, movies etc.

It is a great idea, the target is those people who do not know about bitcoin. It would get their attention and give them curiosity on what bitcoin is. Plus it is a cheaper way than advertising on television. You just need to pick the right place where to put those signs. I hope to see some 'buy bitcoin' posters and signs here in my country someday.

Is doing something like this really effective? if it is then other should continue to promote bitcoin and spread awareness about it. I think that putting up the 'buy bitcoin' sign will confuse many people especially those who do not what bitcoin means. Promotion of bitcoin should be done in social media platforms such as facebook and twitter, and educational campaigns should be done for the new users.

Just a little warning, some event organizers frown on that type of promotion and advertising methods and you might be forced to leave the event that you paid for, if you risk doing something like that. A friend of mine did this at a sport event and he got escorted out of the building. < Reason : Only paid official advertisers gets air time >

This kind of marketing strategy is not really shocking after all, it starts many years ago. But the increase of advertisements may due to the increasing price of bitcoin. It would continue from now until the price is kicking. I hope the viewers of this ads will be careful in signing.

Overall the idea of promoting Bitcoin is good , I don't think this will do anything at all. The guy who hold the sign at Janet Yellen's testimony was cool because his sign was visible and I'm sure everyone who watched it saw the guy holding it.However streams and online tournaments or concerts isn't going to work. How many of you tries to read all the signs when there is a crowd on T.V holding multiple signs at the same time .

it does make me happy when I see the phrase "buy bitcoin" in a TI7. Dota2 has a big community and I can ensure that this may make more people wonder what bitcoin is and will attract more people to join to our community. There is only steam accept bitcoin right now but I think that it does support dota2 very much. Therefore, keep working Steam. Bitcoin is the best:D
That sounds great to me! In order to make bitcoins more famous, it needs to attract more people. It already is attracting masses all over the world and no doubt Dota2 community can play very important role in this regard. At least, Steam accepted bitcoins and I hope it will help in production of more bitcoin lovers. Bitcoins rock!

making promotion for bitcoin is a good idea, i am doing this by using t-shirt with the name tag bitcoin in my chest so people can watch and read bitcoin. i think when i am walk in shopping store with that shirt, people take a look and i see they are curious about what they read but they are shy to ask.
the other thing that i am promoting about bitcoin is when i and my friends go to coffe shop or cafe, we always talking about crypto currencies. we always love to discuss everything in crypto currencies world although our knowledge is not much than other people but we are proud to be the member of crypto currencies.

It is kinda funny that buy bitcoin sign is getting everywhere, the very first is from a senate thingy and now it appeared on Dota 2, and what is the next target for the bitcoin enthusiast? I hope that bitcoin will be wide spread everywhere and i hope that the time comes that buy bitcoin sign is no longer needed for a promotion because everybody knows what is bitcoin.

Idiots, stop spreading the words about bitcoin, don't you know as anyone joins the market we are losing our chance of buying potentially cheap coins? seriously guys we all know what bitcoin is and how it will change everything so why would you promote it? believe me the world will catch up sooner or later and price will go up and up but since some of us have no fortune to buy in bulk and then relax, we're trying to buy a few grands every month so if price keeps going up then we'll have to pay more

I think we don't need to put up signs, so people will buy bitcoin, we should just let them.if they didn't see the opportunity, then its their lost. Being conservative is ok, but not taking a chance to study an innovation is different, they should check the personalities who said they've bpught bitcoins in bulk, like the rothschild, them being an example, a family bankers bought bitcoins, so why not you, they just need to read or watch the news, we don't neex to promote it, since families with great financial background are buying in, then they should too.

We better spred the word "bitcoin" out with our successful achievements. The nature of bitcoin tends to this fact.
It is free. Just write buy bitcoin on a cardboard or print it on a tee then attend some social events. Any publicity for bitcoin is a good publicity and beneficial to all of us bitcoin users and hodlers. The person doing the stunt got lucky and got exposed in the camera during the event. Well done for him.

That's a cool idea I'm sure the guy must be a great fan of bitcoin. I think each and everyone of us should follow him so the next time when we go to any such event which will also be telecast we should carry a sign like that with us so that whenever the camera catches us we should hold up that sign and spread bitcoin to wider audience for free.

As I have pointed out in one my latest posts, I don't see why are we just trying to call Bitcoin attention to every person on this planet.
Keep in mind, that at least for a lot of people in the past generation, there is no need to know Bitcoin really is because they can't even surf a website.
I agree that we should increase awareness on Bitcoin but we could win much more if we try to communicate Bitcoin to tech savy people - people who are aware at least what currency really is and what are the benefits of Bitcoin.

Before we can make the "Buy Bitcoin " to appear everywhere, we need to educate people on what bitcoin is and how it can positively impact their lives, I know for a fact that people are normally scared of things that they don't understand. It's by education that we can put their mind at ease.

'Buy Bitcoin' pop up is not basically meant for its literal meaning. An unlikely pop up of something unrelated catches viewer's attention. This makes them curious and hence they will search about it. They are not just gonna buy it, Rather will understand it first. Hence, the purpose is solved.

Definitely, I agreed with you dude! dota has build and established a big community in the whole world. In fact, in some other country they made an international games competition. So, if they will connect bitcoin into this games I think it could give a lot of advantage for millions of players who played DOTA, like what I remembered I just don't know what year is that but the title of the games was "Golden town" a kind of games that you need to build a houses then you can earn bitcoin while you play, So I think same thing with Dota games.

Lmao…there are people who are likely to go any possible miles just to promote Bitcoin…lol. But this is quite a good idea. This will be a much better and easy style to promote Bitcoin than any other. Some people should learn to adopt this.

This is the beauty of it we do not have to pay for it, if you see a camera you only need a piece of paper and a pen and you can promote bitcoin that way, it is new, bold and cheap, it does not get better than that I’m sure this is going to become a trend in the next weeks and months I suggest that if you want to do this that you carry with you a piece of paper all the time with that message and wait for the right opportunity.

They should make the advertisements of bitcoin not just in a game tournament but everywhere. They should put it in a football game, NBA and other fighting match. I hope someone will do something like that in the coming Mayweather vs. McGreggor fight. This will boost bitcoin demand for sure.

I don't think this is a bad idea but I think mouth publicity would work better than such promotions. These signs might grab attention for seconds but when we are explaining someone about Bitcoin, there is a high possibility of better awareness regarding Bitcoin. Well, I am not comparing this flash sign vs one to one communication but still, I believe that we as an individual focus on the second one for building awareness. Though, I appreciate the sign holders.

I do not see how they can get confused it is just two words they know you are suggesting them to buy something, if they do not know what bitcoin is, they can use their smart phone to look what it is this bitcoin you are talking about and then decide if they want to do it.

The problem is that takes a lot of time and cannot be done rapidly and effectively, the buy bitcoin sign is a great idea because of its simplicity, if signs like that keep emerging all over the place people will begin to try to find out what is all this fuss about this thing called bitcoin and then we will get some people interested enough in bitcoin and they will buy bitcoin as a consequence.

I think the buy bitcoin signs are exactly what we need, that is a perfect example of what this generation understands, that has meme quality, you can photoshop the bitcoin sign guy and put him in the most improbable places, you can put him in space, behind the speech of a president, anywhere and people are going to recognize him.

The value of bitcoin and the spreading of word through mouth to friends and families of people into bitcoin are getting wider and wider everyday. Bitcoin is featured in reputable business forums, channels, and magazines, as well as talked about by rich and powerful people. Sooner or later bitcoin will become really worldwide.

It is the need of the time to attract people towards bitcoins. If the number of its users will increase, it will benefit every single one of us. The idea is a great one. We are living in a world full of technologies and crypto currencies will make payment methods convenient for us, once they are legalized worldwide and for that we need to spread its awareness.

I'm totally against it, Bitcoin shouldn't be turned into some MLM ponzi scheme that require new investors for constant growth. People should naturally adopt Bitcoin on their own, when it will become clear that it's more advanced form of money than fiat. And before it will happen, Bitcoin needs to solve some problems, most notably scaling and legalization. If you are trying to promote Bitcoin as an investment, you should always inform people about possible risks. There is still a small possibility that Bitcoin might crash for some reason, and if it will happen, your friends and family who invested in Bitcoin because of your advice would very likely be angry at you.

... Bitcoin needs to solve some problems, most notably scaling and legalization.
Totally agree. Scaling and legalization are the two main concerns. Once the Bitcoin transactions can be processed much quicker with very low fee (ex: via Lightning Network implementation), it will become a common global currency. However, in order for it to be more broadly adopted, it has to be legalized in countries where Bitcoin is used. Legalization gives people a piece of mind to store and use Bitcoin. I'm totally against it, Bitcoin shouldn't be turned into some MLM ponzi scheme that require new investors for constant growth. People should naturally adopt Bitcoin on their own, when it will become clear that it's more advanced form of money than fiat.
Why against it? Promoting Bitcoin does not turn it into MLM ponzi scheme. Persons who holding up the "Buy Bitcoin" sign do not actually making profit for doing it. It is just a way for people to learn Bitcoin's existance and to encourage them to do research for it if they do not already know. (Nevertheless, I think BitConnect, BCC, is a ponzi scheme.)

I think we are going to keep seeing signs like that emerge all over the place, I do not know if the bitcoin community ever had a meme but I think this could be the meme we need to involve other people in bitcoin and not only people that are deeply interested in the world, the economy and technology, this could be a way to reach a lot of people that are not like that.

We kinda need bitcoin to have a better scaling solution before we increase its size by 100x though... Most people would be instantly put off if they learned about the coin had to wait a week or pay a huge fee for their first ever transfer.

Good discussion point. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The decision to buy a coin should be based on real analysis of the coin. I found that people keep buying coins without have any knowledge of them. This is considered high risk. This is quite an interesting website I found: https://www.coincheckup.com The site lets you check all there is to know about the team, product, communication transparency, advisors and investment statistics on every crypto. Check: https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Bitcoin#analysis To check Bitcoin Report.

I think with writing like that would have a very big effect on bitcoin. because a lot of people around the world know about bitcoin just because "a piece of writing" behind the caster. not bad and very nice.

Before we can make the "Buy Bitcoin " to appear everywhere, we need to educate people on what bitcoin is and how it can positively impact their lives, I know for a fact that people are normally scared of things that they don't understand. It's by education that we can put their mind at ease.
I agree with you, sir. In order for bitcoin to be known, it must be advertise by many bitcoin users. It's the best way to keep bitcoin alive.

Yes I also agree with that, that first of all the people should be aware of what bitcoin is? Then there should be a campaign everywhere in the world to accept t=bitcoin as a one international digital legal crypto currency of the world. It is not a difficult job but it will take more time and in the near future this thing will be possible as many people have already been accepted bitcoin and have invested in it.

Man, how do you think the markets works? Why do you think stocks go higher in price? Because someone is willing to buy them for an higher price that is why, that is not a ponzi scheme that is the way the economy works, do you think that the shirt you are wearing costs what you paid in the store? Of course not, the one that made it only paid a fraction of the cost.

Totally agree. Bitcoin should be a legal global currency one day where it gets accepted everywhere. Before that, one of the things needed to happen is for people to know and learn about it.

I saw that advertisement on the news regarding the Dita 2 Tournament. It is a good idea because it is a free advertisement and it really make a news because lots of people are watching that time. Maybe we need to do the same to spread awareness about Bitcoin.
In my opinion, we do not need care about that. Because if someone really want to know Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, Google will automatic advertises ads "buy bitcoin/ ICO token" helps us. Not only Google, facebook ads also know that and it can advertises like Google too.

It's a nice idea, if t would be posted also on social media for free advertisement. A lot of people will surely be curious about it but not everyone will buy the idea. I think any promotion of bitcoin will be a good strategy for the bitcoin world.

I actually have a sticker at the rear of my car, and will soon wear a tshirt with "buy bitcoin" print on it... unfortunately, I don't go out that much. ha ha ha! Anyway, I would sell t-shirts soon, gonna post it here in the services section (I'm just waiting to rank up since nobody loves to deal with a Full Member that much). I need to earn money since I don't want to go back to having a day job anymore.

That is the plan. Bitcoin is better for long term investment. I am holding them for at least 10 years.

Yes holding is the great option when the prices are falling and the real and true successful investor do so and another idea is hold it for the long times and this will give you huge profit after 10 years and that profit will mean a lot to you so buy low sell high make this rule to your life and you will be an expert. And then there will be no worries for you.

Everything takes time and bitcoin is still young currency. It has developed and achieved a lot during the past couple of years, just remember where it wa at the begining. More ad more people are interested in bitcoin and more and more are learning about it. Acceptance is increasing and already in this phase we can say that it's global currency and you can use it anywhere in the world with internet access.

Its not so much that people dont know about bitcoin and alts now; its that they have no idea how to interact with the market/purchase coins. bitcoin isnt hard (well, kinda LOL), its moreso that obtaining bitcoin is hard. you need a bank account for the most part, or at least access to a bank. not too many people on localbitcoins that actually accept cash at the market rate, there is usually a premium attached.
you would do better putting up a "learn more about bitcoin" sign, education will get us more adoption than a blind cry to purchase.

It won't be enough. Ordinary people won't invest in something they barerly know or they don't understand. Not everyone can understand how Bitcoin and Blockchain technology work. You can tell them that they are going to earn a lot of money but they are going to be mad at you and Bitcoin when it's going to decline (for example due to correction or recent events).

To invest in cryptocurrencies take gut. Most people are conservative. As Bitcoin becoming more popular and accessible, the fund from the "ordinary people" will come in.

Not gonna do it myself. I’m done urging people to go into cyptocurrency. I just let mainstream media do that. Gaming tournaments are the ideal place to put Buy Bitcoins signs since the hardware used there is perfect for mining.
