Looks like a good coin to buy right now is Ethereum. Because at the end of September this year there will be hardfork again. And of course this will not damage the future of ETH blockchain but further increase the security of money belonging to the investor DAO which amount is not small the most vulnerable to hacking.

To be honest, buy Ethereum at now is best choice if you are missed in past time buy Ethereum for holding in long time.
Because it has dumped to base price 0.05x but recoveried very fast.
Check again Bitcoin in July has dumped like Ethereum to $1,800 before breakout $3,000 and increasing to $4,000 like today.

With bitcoin investments we don't need to worry, the best coin on the market. I think for new investors bitcoin is the safest coin, there are fluctuations but generally price is going up and in last year price is increased a lot, enough for every investor to be satisfied.
With new coins, and some old ones is hard to suggest any coin for purchasing. I like ltc and eth, and both coins have a future. My first choice is always bitcoin, after bitcoin you can buy this two that I already mentioned, dash, zcash, this coins are here more then I'm, so for OP would be the best to search about this coins and buy some if he have some money left after buying bitcoin.
