GUIMiner Questions

I just began mining using GUIminer at the Eligius pool.  For the username I put in my bitcoin account number but I don't know what the password field is for?    I didn't have to register for the pool.  Another question is does anyone know any extra field commands for HD6850 cards?

Just use anything as password, it does not matter. But double check you have your correct wallet id as username.

If you are using the standard poclbm you can go with: -v -w128 and stat experimenting for there, adding -f 0 can help a bit if you are only going to use the PC for mining.

Also you can try using Phoenix Miner inside of GUIMiner, many find it faster.

Thanks for the help, I will try the Pheonix miner.  I have now been getting error message, " verification failed, check hardware" using the GUIMiner.  Maybe the pheonix one won't have an issue.  It could be that I do have a problem because the ATI SDK v 2.4 was meant for Vista and win 7 but I'm running xp.  Not sure if that is creating the problem or not.

I had the same Problem with GUIminer, so i just switched to phenix.
I was a bit pissed of because i didnt understand it immidiatly in 30seconds LOL,
but it worked after i google it a short try in 5 minitues :-)

for example here are my best parameters for a 6870:

I am still trying to test out guiminer solo mining mode, but i have not been able to connect, it keeps giving connection errors.  can someone post the instruction and the default settings? what goes into the server input box, the default is "localhost", what goes into the port input box, I used 8333 and 8332 but nothing. thanks.

I really suggest you do pool mining so you start earning some reward.

Eligius is a good pool, but it only pays out when you have generated 1 BTC in rewards.  I would suggest that you look at BTCGuild, where you can withdraw your balance 2x per day, regardless of your accrued amount.  Don't get me wrong, Eligius is great for free mining, but BTCGuild may better suit you.


Oh, and I don't mine, so my advice is not biased toward anyone.

Eligius is a little hit or miss - its hashrate is too low to give a consistent payout.

I've found that slush's pool has given me the most consistent and best payout...might be luck, but that's the one I'm sticking with.

I could also suggest Slush's Pool,
the Payout is better than by other pools i tried, and faster also.
just compare it.

You could mine for example 3 hours and calulate the overall "unconfirmed rewards " u earn in 3 hours by multiplicate it by 8
so you have an 24h /BTC value which you could compare with other pools.
i did it so and slush' was the best.

Mining for 3 hours really isn't going to be all that indicative.

The bigger pools will get you less money, in less time. The smaller pools will get you more money, in a longer time.

It all averages out!

3h was an example,

BUT it was enough to calculate an average income.
for example i abort at a miningpool (90Ghash) after 19h because i got only 0,14 BC
so it is needed to mine approx 6 days for 1 BC

so i switched to Slush pool wit 1900Ghash and i got after 68h 1 BC ! (about 3 Days)


My experience says the oppsite you declare here.
Do you just think that smaler pools are better or do you have any Numbers you could name here?

It's based on probability.

If you'd stayed on miningpool for another 24hrs they might have found 10 blocks and you would have been paid out 5BC for ones days work.

A bigger pool simply just reduces the luck variance over short periods of time.

where you see 'localhost' in your guiminer on one of your mining rigs you should replace that with the ip address of the machine that you are using as your server. you can choose which port you wish to use but just be sure that you use the same port in the conf file on the machine that you are running the daemon on as you use in the mining clients input box(s).

For the past month I have been using the phoenix miner on all of my rigs with the phatk kernel. Yesterday I decided to try solo mining just too see how the process works. I could no get the phoenix miner to any completed hashes although it would connect. So, I switched all of my clients to Opencl with poclbm and I am using a different machine in my lan as run the daemon and act as the server. All the rigs connect (but even with -v -w 128 I still lose about 20-30 Mhash on each card). Here is the problem. I get connection errors at random intervals and other times a message stating 'verification failed, check hardware'. I am really not liking this poclbm open cl mining at all. I never had these issues with the phoenix. Is there some way to get the phoenix to work in solo mining and actually display shares?
