I started trading mid June. Have been losing money till start of August. Now I have some gains finally (still haven't recovered from my loss though). Doing daily trading I hope for 10% a month, if it goes well I think I can do 1% a day (34% a month) but that's super optimistic.

I hope I can manage 10% a months since that is an extremely good return rate (better than any investment fund can offer).

You mean like buy-an-hold return relative to USD? Hard to define, since BTC has been very volatile over the years.

If you look at the yield from 2013 until today you get a lot of different calculations, depending on your frame of reference. Investing in Jan 2013 would have yielded you ~ 30,000% while investing at the peak of Dec 2013 would have "only" yielded you ~ 238% today. In the years inbetween BTC moved within a price range of USD 1000 - USD 300,- making your annual yield highly dependent on your point of entry.

Alt coins are a bit trickier. Historically most of them got outperformed by BTC, although short term some show sudden bursts of profitability. Caveat Emptor.

In general keep in mind that "past performances are no guarantees for future returns" and all that jazz. Long term there's still a lot of room to grow though.

I can't be bothered to trade, so I'd be talking buying and holding.

Considering the quite ludicrous amount of risk, and despite what anyone says the whole scene is a house of cards that could disappear in a puff of C+ at any moment, anyone going into it looking for 10% a year is in the wrong business. In recent years you could get that and plenty more with stocks.

You need to go big or go home. That said, I don't have any expectations either.

Yep, I forgot to mention: Crypto is definitely not for the faint of heart.

If your heart starts pumping when the S&P500 goes 5% into the negative, think twice before investing in crypto. There's lots to be gained, but also a high risk. People are bullish right now because the market is bullish, but about 2-3 years ago it didn't look so rosy.

I know it's been done to death, but: Don't invest money you're not willing to lose. Or better yet, treat any money you put into crypto as already lost and be positively surprised in case it actually pays off.

Well it depends the coins you bought and your targets. For example, some of them generates 50% return in 1 day, some of them generates 5000% return in 1 month. It really varies, but the reality is that the total return is generally so high than the classical markets. I made 30% in 3 weeks in ethereum.

That was so small, But I'd made over 200% in a week incrypto, crypto is different with the stocks. I remember that already invested in 0x and i get 5x return just in some hours. Because the return in crypto is really unpredictable. If you are luck you can gained a lot of return just in a day even in a hour.

In trading only one minute you can earn 10% on your investment and if you have a short term trading it's easier to earn. Just be careful about every step you make because it's like gambling in a snap to lose your bitcoins. It is easy to avoid as long as you are careful of everything you do. Actually I'm earning 30% to 50% in day trading sometimes with a loss but you're instantly recovered just in patience

For me the difference with crypto is that I don't really expect a return. With traditional investments my assumption is around 7% over a long period of time, but I consider my crypto holdings to be far more speculative, and would be OK losing all of it (well, I would be upset, but I know the risks). I would not be OK if my other investments went to 0.

That being said, for the risk involved I would hope it would outperform traditional investments in the longrun (>7%).

This 7% rate of return on stocks and bonds is based on various assumption. It can be an average rate of return if you are investing for like 10 years or more. In a single year stocks market can itself be very volatile and might give you huge loss or profit. 7% is an average only which itself is loosely defined.

Crypto market is much much more volatile than stocks and bonds. It's been just 8-9 years(not even 10 years which was the basis of you assumption) since cryptocurrencies came to existence whereas stocks and bonds are here from quite long. Market is still very new to conclude anything.

When I trade crypto I expected 10% of return, but that doesn't fixed, we need to be flexible about trading because crypto trading fluctuation is very high and it is harder to predict the crypto price, but if you able to speculate the right coin the profit can be more than 30% and sometimes can 50% in just few days

there really isn't any limit for trading cryptocurrencies. specially if you are into trading altcoins and become good at it, you can say that sky is the limit.
most of the times i can easily expect at least a 200% return monthly if it is a good month and a 50-70% return if it is one of the bad months where there is only dumps.

i have made that much and even more but i rarely trade these days because it takes a lot of my time and i can no longer dedicate that much to trading. and often times i aim for a 5% profit in a day and get out quick since we are in the alt dump market phase.

We are talking about the average and really can't use that short term stats ,
You might get 10% profit within a minute but you can't do that continuously right ?
So let's sum it up , bitcoin since first day worth $1 and now it's $4,000 after 9 years ,
I could say 4,300x value has increased , just calculate by yourself how much you have invested.

with stocks and bonds and all that stuff the profit is always small because they don't grow that much in most of the times but at the same time this means they don't drop as much either. this makes them a more stable investment with less risk.

with cryptocurrencies things are different, they grow a lot but also they drop a lot too. speaking of altcoins, they get manipulated a lot too and that makes them much more volatile. all of this makes cryptocurrencies a more profitable investment but at a much higher risk.

it is as they say: high risk, high reward.
so you have to choose how much you want to invest and how much risk you are willing to take. in the end if you can figure out the market you can easily double your money (100% profit) in a month. or lose all of it in a month too. (-100% loss)

I would say in cryptocurrencies atleast 5% a month is possible and 10% a month is not hard to do, then 20% is a good income already. Since I started using cryptocurrencies, just having bitcoins made me a profit of 100% per year and more depending on the increase. Pretty good profits to be honest, if only I started a lot earlier.

Thanks for all the responses really appreciate it,  I was referring to a ballpark figure of an annual return,  based on spreading out between say 25% BTC, 25% NEO, 15% ETH, and 35% alts.

Honestly I love the swings and the action of crypto game much more then a fixed 5% that really amounts to 3.5% given inflation of USD.

On my view the return investing in crypto not less 25% when close monitoring  trading for my savings crypto I put risk factor 10 % for each cryptocurrency to avoid loss more balance my profits  is less but safe for me.
