What BTC needs is some big global solid exchange. Crazy none have popped up, cause they would make so much money that theyd be able to put themselves on layaway after about a year.

No BTC needs a lot of smaller exchanges in competition which makes them solid.

Fully agree! Even though for someone who want to buy bitcoins for the first time, a solid Exchanger is a good option in terms of trust. See what happened with Bitcoin-24 (I must say they allowed me to withdraw my bitcoins even if their account was frozen by the authorities). Still think that a larger bunch of different exchangers is a good way not to centralise the offer.

The general theory is that enough competition should prevent incompetent folks from opening an exchange in the first place so that such a clusterfuck can not happen. Whenever that holds true we will see.

It seems to me that every time there's a buzz over an exchange, something bad is about to happen shortly, as bitcoin-24 were gaining traction, boom, bitfloor were coming back in good form, boom, mtgox were doing so good that they were about to add LTC, boom.

I used to leave my 700 btc in gox for year, once they announced Coinlab agreement, I moved every dime out.

So, my 2 satoshis is, better use exchanges that are still under the radar, do your transactions, and move everything out.

If many chinese people will jump into Bitcoin after the recent CCTV cover, as we can imagine after the boom in downloads we saw this month, you can be sure that many exchengers will appear!

its good to have big trusted exchanges, but you need lots of little ones to keep them honest and give them competition.  Essentially, it comes down to how much do you value the extra services and big name trust of the big guys?  Banking at Chase is a lot more secure than HomeTown Bank, but are the extra things you get with Chase (better website, better support) worth the extra fees?  For some people the answer is yes, but if the gap grows too much, they're willing to jump to HomeTown bank.

I NEVER leave anything in exchanges.  It's there only if it's a small fraction that I couldn't withdraw ( <0.0001 BTC or <0.01 USD) or it's being acted upon (active sell or buy order).  They have wallets for that, and these wallets should be USED!!!

I think this thread got someone's attention, I've never seen price of CampBX and MTGox so similar.

Currently:
MtGox    $122.40
CampBX $121

Usually they're $5+ apart
