Research. Lots of people look into the team behind the coin. Established Devs are a good sign to a coins success.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

That's a good question, for me it all starts with reading on Reddit. There is always a ton of information in the different subreddits for Ethereum and Bitcoin. I also read a lot of the crypto publications and listen to youtube videos. I find youtube to be great resource for listening to project founders discuss their vision.

I come on bitcointalk  Tongue
Bitcointalk is the most important website when it comes to researching a coin that hasn’t released yet since the teams of those coins like to talk about the coin before they do a launch. Since most people on this forum don’t really like to talk about what coin they are actually in because they would lose a bunch of money if they did, the team posting about the coin that they are working on allows more people to become interested in making a purchase before the price goes flying.
If you research enough, dropping money into an ICO could be a good idea.

It`s true, research is the first step before investing, so that we can know the good impact and the adverse effects. People can get information from us by eavesdropping, spying, or asking directly about the information to us.

You need to fully understand what blockchain really is.
Once you figured it out, only then will you be able to rate ICOs properly.
Venture capitalist also need to fully understand the environment and how a company works before investing in one.
Else you'll fall pray to the fancy marketing and buzz words like many others.
Nice advice. I will take blockchain knowledge seriously then

This is really a very question because an unpopular asset with a great potential might be filled with the word "SCAM" during their very early stages and that could make people back off from such asset until they hit it BIG and people would then be saying .... OMG! "Had I known..."
