An Airdrop occurs when someone who wants to promote his new cryptocurrency plans a controlled and periodic release of some coins to people that meets a specific set of characteristics - e.g. user ranking and activity -. An example could be the recent Deep Onion AirDrop initiative - search on this forum to find more -

I don't know of a particular thread with the terms, but the search function is pretty useful. As the user above mentioned, though, basically it's where the coins are given away for free as opposed to an ICO where you have to buy the coins. Besides Deep Onion, you can find examples in Minereum and Timereum. Airdrops generally seem to be met with more support and less skepticism than ICO's. At least, that's the trend I see on these boards.

There is some project that will have done an airdrop as soon as possible, you can find them all in the announcement section and try to read the title first, because that will always be mentioned in the title about the airdrop in the future. That was so easy to understand for you.

In the past, it was an opportunity to receive free coins or tokens just from signing up and meeting their requirements such as "no newbies". Nowadays it's more like a bounty, you have to do a variety of tasks in order to receive the coins or tokens.

Some says airdrop can commonly be called as a signature campaign in which developer designed it to give rewards to those members which carries the signature they made for a definite period of time. This is used in order to promote the cryptocurrency to other members of cryptocurrency communities. And can be said that their means of payment is through airdrop.

If you want an example of what an airdrop is, try ATS coins at the moment. You get 75 free ATS in this airdrop, worth at least $10. Just use the link in my signature to sign up!

An airdrop is a free giveaway of a new coin as a form of introduction to the crypto community. There are new projects with their respective tokens that choose airdrops rather than bounty campaigns. They are alloting a certain percentage of their initial token for giveaways to spread the word of their new token. But not all new coins are introduced this way. There are now a few airdrops. Projects tend to choose bounty campaign. Some others have airdrops as well as bounty though. Some airdrops are also unique in that they require the participants to wear signature and make posts.

Can someone advise any airdrops?
DeepOnion is doing one of the biggest Airdrops in Cryptocurrency history. You should definately check it out! You can simply follow the link in my signature or you google it, it's really easy to find because there's a very big popularity about it and it's increasing everyday. But of course there are some very strict rules for the airdrop and you have to make shure that you follow all of them precisely, otherwise you might not get accepted. Currently, the moderators review every request manually because they follow the guidelines very strictly.

Wow! I read a lot of "Airdrops" but I ignored because I'm a newbie and I prefer Bitcoins and Signature Campaigns instead but didn't expect will come to a thought that I need to understand this term. This forum is indeed a big help for everyone.
