If anyone can get MSI Afterburner running with 4 cards, I will send 1 BTC & code for download of Dirt3 game I got bundled with one of my cards...

Three cards works just fine. Afterburner starts right up. Once I put the 4th card in, I get "Failed to initilize display driver wrapper!" All 4 cards show up in device manager and GUIMiner. Just need Afterburner to control the speed and fans now.

MSI 890FXA-GD70
Sempron
2GB Ram
4x xfx6870

Once I have a solution that works, I will promptly send over a BTC and PM you with the download code for Dirt3.

Let me know if you need any more details from me.
Thanks,
Mike

Same problem happened to me:

1-First check that Device manager show all 4 cards without any messages listed (pretty important, because it confirms whether the hardware is properly installed/if at all and seen correctly by windows)

2.Go to control panel and uninstall all the listings for AMD/ATI. Then:

Search for this 4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 in reg edit. Delete the the whole folder, it will fail but instead delete all the listings underneath, which is what we want.

3. Reboot. The system might/fail loading windows while it installs the default drivers. Once you're running the default drivers install 11.5b or 11.6, reboot. Instal caps 5.

This should get rid of your problem. If this solves your problem i really hope you send me the bounty  Grin

I tried this based on the forum post at overclock.net.  Just made windows hang on the reboot... If you can eleaborate a bit more on these instructions, maybe that would help.

for me windows took a little to load but after that everything was fine.

Maybe using the last drive swepper can solve your problem (not the one from guru3d, this one: http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html)
Use drive swepper like this: uninstal ati/amd stuff from control panel, reboot in safe mode, run drive swepper and erase everything amd/ ati related, reboot, then instal driver 11.6 reboot and install caps.

Still nothing.  Followed your instructions with the driver sweeper in safemode. Installed the caps. still getting the same error. Anyone have any other programs they are using to control overclocking and fan speed for 4 cards? There has to be someone that has done it...

Just tried trixx and everything started fine, no errors. But it looks like trixx is only seeing my 4th card. Can only control the fan on the 4th card and based on my mining speed it is only OCing the 4th one too. I have tried the two latest versions of it. Any ideas?

I was having problems with it not starting right. So GUIminer would start mining and before I knew it the temps would be through the roof. Maybe I will have to go back to see if I can get CCC to be more reliable since I am striking out with everything else.  Wish someone had a way to get afterburner working, I loved the monitoring functionality and putting the temps in the tray.

Pretty sure I was able to set a constant fan %. Could be wrong though. I gave up on CCC pretty quickly.
