I can see how many young people like Kim. Maybe they used
Megaupload because they lack better alternatives.
Or maybe they like how he went to war with US gov, moviestudios,
I can see how this got a lot of charm for many people.
But he was also convicted of insider trading, has ratted
out his friends and the hacker/phreaker scene back in the
day, plus he plays videogames all day.
Which probably again got charm for many people
But if he got a huge ICO coming yet rather is first to
reach 257? in the destiny videogame you can see where
his focus is.
All his failed projects ever were either based on defrauding
others, or on scamming others for his own personal advantage.
Now for his new project, his new website, its basically a
front-end to hide links behind it. Of course its meant for
warez links. As he is not hosting the links directly, he
hopes that this is a legal loophole.
Now some say its great that legal content creators, like
authors, musicians, film studios could upload their content
and earn money. But what they dont realize is that there is
tons of such platforms already that barely anyone uses.
People want hollywood movies, famous bands/dj music, amazon
kindle books, game of thrones.. and not some students tv show.
So his site will only be able to grow large with piracy as
all his other projects.
But here is the issue. No movie studio in the planet, no artist,
no author will ever put their content on Kimdotcoms site because
they have their own platforms, contracts with regional companies
(so his claim that he can make movies available worldwide will
not work, as there is billions of dollars being paid by
countries to buy movie packages and have the exclusive rights).
If they pay $500m for a movie package to show it exclusively in
uk, they wont like it when everyone can download it for free
suddenly or for cents. None of the involved parties.
Also hollywood is in talks with Apple iTunes & others about
streaming movies only a few weeks after cinema start for heavy
prices like $50. Now if these movies are on Kimdotcoms new site
for $1 or $5 , why would they be happy about it even if they
can claim the illegal proceeding?
No way in hell this is going to work, its like saying: Lets steal
cars and then send the car owners $50 for gas and everyone is happy.
And also from a user perspective side its not working. Porn traffic
is now 99% for free porn. Piracy is heavily available for free,
people wont be likely to pay for downloading piracy when the
movies, music, shows are available everywhere else for $0.
What Kimdotcoms will get tho is a lot of PR i am sure, so that
might be worth it to invest some, but the concept itself, the
product, is pure garbage.
