Might be stupid but if you have a few or big external fans blowing on your cards you think taking the plastic shrouds off the GPUs would allow more air flow over cooling parts?

I personally leave the cooling components on the only reason to take them off IMO would be if you were liquid cooling.

Not rthe fans and radiators just the plastic shorud that covers them. Seems like more air flow over the aluminum would help

the manufacturers put them on for a reason.?  I would bet that the existing fans work better with the shrouds installed... They didnt spend the extra monehy adding shrouds for no reason.

I understand but if you have a few desk fans or a bunch of external fans blowing seems liek it would work better to blow directly on the aluminum fins vs the shrouds.  Not saying your wrong just a idea that popped in my head.

shoruds probably there to ensure warm air isn't recirculated back into the fan's intake.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

If you have a big enough fan blowing on the heatsink fin assembly then you might notice a decrease in temps.  What you should do is take the plastic shroud off, test it, and if it doesn't decrease your temps put the shroud back on.  There isn't much that can go wrong.

Bing bing we have the winner.

Reference shrouds also route hot air out of the computer case so in crossfire can be done with a closed case.  Open case bitcoin miners do not care but it does help you run cooler.

if you still have the reference fan, you should keep the shroud on

only after that fan fails and you ziptie a 120mm on instead is when you take it off

Leave the shrouds on until the fans die, then pull them off, and cable tie PC fans to them.

The big external fans blowing over peoples systems is to keep the motherboards from catching fire!
No case = no air flow over the motherboad heatsinks, VRMs and capacitors!

Taking off the plastic increased my temperatures, they are there for a reason and influence the airflow.

So for an open air system, pulling them off would be optimal, or not?

Also, it's SHROUDS people, say it with me, SHROUDS. Not SHORUDS, FF even comes with a spell check nowadays -_-;
