I refuse to post simply for the sake of filling the newbie board with fluff. Oh wait... Robots don't like fluff, which is a well known fact. These fluff posts are actually spambot repellent.

What sucks isn't having to come up with five posts... any of us could do that in a matter of minutes, blindfolded and standing on our heads...
what sucks is posting five messages... then having to lurk here for four freakin' hours to gain access to the message board for which we came here to participate...
I am not here to debate Bitcoins and Bitcoin companies and Bitcoin fees and all that jazz...
I am here because I utilize a specific website that will only communicate to its users through a message board on this site...
So, yes, there is a website owner out there... we'll call him 'Peter'... who has a wonderful entertainment website that is tons of fun to use...
but if you want to comment on it, or if you want to report a bug, you have to come here and be a newb for FOUR HOURS before you are allowed to post your comments/complaints on his own message board...
maybe that is genius...
what if you bought something from Walmart that was broken... and then you couldn't return it until you went through four hours of a 'How To Return Something' orientation seminar...
it would certainly cut down on their returns, huh?
like I said... his name must be 'Richard'...

the sense of 5 posts is.... none, better way would be 0.01 or 0.005 btc to get full access. People would think twice before troliing
~$1? I don't think it would stop many.

The five posts stopped me from registering for awhile. I'm also just a very lazy person.

Just one more deterrent to prevent bots from flooding the site. Your 5 posts don't have to be worthless

Five posts for spam deterrence. At least the forum is free otherwise.

Your five posts reveal something about the kind of critter you are. You are posting to readers who wonder whether you will say anything worth reading. How many worthless posts would you be willing to read? (Me neither). Think of it as a maturity test.

even a small fractional cost wouldn't be effective against spammers.. if it was cheap enough to not be a deterrent to user growth. Maybe it would be better if there was an option to donate? Similar to reddit gold or something.

I honestly needed 20 attempts at solving the reg captcha. I wonder if bots are able to register at all, given humans already have a hard time doing that.

This said, coinvisitor (may it rest in pieces) had a pretty nice one click captcha, I'd say humans were able to solve it in 95% of all cases. Wondering why that isn't used more widespread.
And don't get me started on those slide captchas (I currently can't came up with the name.) Those guys have terrible performance problems, more often than not those captchas wouldn't load at all.
