Some exchanges as Bitstamp did not communicate anything about getting BTG for whose who held BTC at the time BTG was forked. Any ideas what would be in this situation?

If you had BTC in the exchanges the chances are that you will not receive any BTG. Only those exchanges that mentioned they would support it would be able to provide you with BTG.

Its best to store BTC in your own wallet (software or hardware), if you wish to gain from some of the forks.

This is the same for other forks. Bitcoin diamond for example forked 3-4 weeks ago but some exchanges didn't credit it and they won't credit this for sure. Superbitcoin forked as well and we don't have information still.
Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

Bitcoin Gold is a fork of bitcoin just like Bitcoin Cash. One of the notable changes is that they have changed algorithm to Equihash which makes it asic resistance and its a memory intensive algorithm. The idea is to bring back GPU mining plus some other changes.

BTG node seems like a joke .I can't even get it to sync despite trying several different ways.
  • I've tried copying my BTC  full nodes block/rev files from the blocks dir to the oct24 or whatever date to the btg node block/rev files  (same as I did with BCH) , the  BTG node won't even start then, segfault/coredump. Real nice.
  • I've tried to let it sync form scratch with and without bootstrap option
  • i've tried bootstap with force connect option to my full btc node, that half works, gets to about may 12 2012 before it hangs and stops.
  • I've tried opeing the upload ports for BTG so other nodes can see I'm willing to relay and not just a drain on other nodes. I see the peers come and go in the debug window and like they dn't like me for some reason and after downloading a few blocks I end up with no outbound peers connected over time.

I've plenty of upload and download bandwidth and have several other crypto nodes running and never really  had any issues.

What's it take to get your btg node going? Is this just junk software? Last I check there was only 24 nodes running for BTG.
I'm start to get the distinct feeling BTG doesn't want the avg. joe to be running a full node.

due to the decrepitude of BTG blockchain, and the lack of security of BTG wallet (malware included apparently in the binaries)

BitFlyer has still not decided to credit BTG to BTC holders...

this whole project sucks

I'm with you mate, but please bear in mind that BTG (unfortunately) lost its reputation after a stream of security problems.
BitFlyer is taking advantage of that.

The only important thing to do is to bind them to this cristalline endorsement from BTG:
https://bitcoingold.org/vulnerable-wallets/

After this we can signal BitFlyer for unfair commercial practice.
Which I've done already.

BTG has a nice value. It was a joke at the beginning, maybe it will develop in something fairly good.
But I will be careful about it.

Policy on Bitcoin Gold-related chain split in Bitcoin blockchain
(Revised on December 1)
A chain split (“split”) related to Bitcoin Gold (BTG) occurred on October 24, 2017. Our
response to the chain split is as follows.
1
・ We will credit you with an amount of BTG corresponding to the amount of Bitcoin
(BTC) in your bitFlyer account prior to the split.2 If we deem the BTG split to be a
permanent and secure customer asset as well as of solid legality and compliance,
then bitFlyer accounts will support both BTC and BTG.
・ Services allowing users to buy, sell, deposit, and send BTG are planned for release.
We plan to implement the procedures described above. However, due to security issues
such as the inclusion of malware in the BTG wallet software’s distributed binary, BTG
has not yet been distributed to customer accounts and we are carefully examining the
issue. If we deem the BTG split to be a permanent and secure customer asset as well as
of solid legality and compliance, then bitFlyer accounts will support both BTC and
BTG. Services allowing users to buy, sell, deposit, and send BTG are planned for
release at that time.

Is there a safe Bitcoin Gold wallet yet? I am not looking forward to installing the BTG Core Wallet and downloading the whole blockchain.

Hello,

Does anybody know which wallets plan to support the Bitcoin Gold (BTG) friendly fork on October 1st? And what, if anything, should be done by the user?
If you want to get bitcoin fork, better buy hardware wallet. This kind of wallet usually support bitcoin fork and is safer wallet for your bitcoin holdings. It also holds other altcoins such as Ethereum, Litecoin and so much more.

Thanks, but I am looking for a desktop wallet. Why are there no decent alternative desktop wallets for BTG, why so much focus on mobile phones?

I got this coin for free on the Yobit and immediately wanted to sell it. But I was very busy and did not do it. Recently I checked the price and was pleasantly surprised. I did not expect it could become so valuable. Now I decide to keep it for long-term...
