Bithumb has just announced that they are going to open the withdrwals for Bitcoin Gold in february. Very nice news for the korean community, they will be very happy about that. Read here for the details: http://bithumb.cafe/archives/20001
Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

I think that eventually people will understand what BTG is and stop taking interest in this project, it seems to me that the BTG project was created only in order to raise money from people, thus giving nothing in return, the usual fork of bitcoin

well, i suppose that i have to find a way and use coinomi. It seems that there is no other way. Thanks everybody for your help!

If you have already swept the BTC private keys, you could even use a borrowed android device

Great advice.

Remember: BTC - and - BCH (!). Don't forget BCH guys. Currently BCH is worth about 10% of the BTC, and BTG only 1% (aproximately). So before you even think of getting to the 1%, secure your remeining 110% of your funds.

You're pretty much describing 99% of coins out there.

i can follow the previous bitcoin cash fork easily. But for this bitcoin gold, it is not easy to find out when is the finalised time for the snapshot to be taken and is there any replay protection implemented.

yes they have replay protection. It was actually the condition of hardware wallet manufacturers that they will not support it unless it is implemented. So they implemented it after the snapsot, but before going live.

In the beginning it was messy, I agree - no replay protection, scams with wallets listed on the official site. Now it is better. I suggest to stick to the most reliable and most official solutions when dealing with BTG - use only official wallet (full node wallet) or hardware wallets from official well-established vendors.

I used to think that this is a dead fork that everyone will soon forget. But now I see that the project began to revive and the developers decided to go on. Perhaps this coin can live for several months. But I'm not ready to take risks and invest in BTG anyway...

I don't know. Currently as of now, and I am having a look at coinmarketcap, Bitcoin is up 7%, cash fork is up 2% and gold fork is up 2%. If you remember that gold substitutes only 1% of portfolio of people who holded bitcoin in the time of the fork, that is really nothing to get excited about.

Also, BTG used to be in top 10 coins on coinmarketcap, and it has been going stadily down ever since.

Don't think majority of people who received this coin still holding it. It was already pumped two times before current 2+ months of accumulation  Smiley

there is going to be many more forks of BTC; as most of those forks will fail, people will remember legitimate projects like BCH and BTG and come back to invest again and again, BTG is a very strong, ASIC resistant, decentralized coin, no doubt about it.

Also, please note that BCH and BTG are the only bitcoin chain splits that are supported by hardware wallet manufacturers. This kind-of legitimizes them, while at the same time kind-of delegitimizes the other hard forks that happened later.

I have my private keys / seed from electrum. Can someone tell me what is easiest way to claim my btg?

Thanks!

You could do the following:

0. Make sure all your bitcoins and bitcoin cash is GONE from that address (a security best practice)

1. download the official BTG Core wallet from https://bitcoingold.org/downloads/ (make sure all keys of your download match).

2. Run it and synchronize it with the network (it may take from a couple of days to a couple of weeks)

3. Import your private key as you would do in bitcoin core (importprivkey command from the console)

4. You can now send it to your destination address and deinstall the core. Save the wallet.dat for security reasons (Satoshi recommended NEVER to delete your wallets)

That method has cons and pros. Pros - it is farely safe and secure as you don't compromise your private keys to any other party. Cons - it takes long to synchronize.

OK I will follow that instruction and let you know how long it takes. I am past point 0 Smiley and I will be providing feedback on my progress. Point one seems straightforward too, the interesting part is the synchronisation part. We'll see

EDIT: the time I started the synchronisation 25th Feb, 19.30 CET
EDIT: OK it is synched as of 5th Apr. More than a month (!) Past that, I was able to execute the rest of the points successfully

This Coin has tremendous long term potential, you can load up with great confidence anywhere below 100 USD, might happen again in a week or so, don't miss it this time around.
