The only tip that i can give to you as a newbie or first time buyer is to buy right now and keep your bought bitcoins for a long time because that is the best way to get a chance to make money with bitcoin and you also need to master controlling your emotion so you will have a better chance for holding it long term.

OMG - stay away from PayPal. Seriously.
They do not protect you from charge backs. I literally lost my BTC and my money because of them. I will never make that mistake again.
I've used LocalBitcoins in the past to buy into or cash out of crypto. Good luck.

Buy the first day if the project is serious. You can see the first 3-4 hours of the ICO (if it goes until those hours ^ ^) A good ICO is realized in qqs hours, so the first day, checks from the launch, and if it takes, not to invest with the entry bonuses.

Remains to choose a relevant project on the blockchain.

Good to you!

NEWBIE HERE!!

Looking for some help with making first-time btc buys using PayPal/cc. I'm not sure where to buy from and the whole process seems pretty complex and overbearing, is Coinbase a good place to start? if not, can somebody please point me in the right direction? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Seriously, thank you.
P.S. Apologies for the high level of a novice in these questions.

Thanks again to anybody willing to help!

Coinbase is how I started and worked fine for me. The drawback is that you have to link your bank account to them and also provide some info to prove your identity. If you are willing to do this, it should work for you if you are a US customer.

Once you have the account set up, you place a buy order that will take a few days and they will draw the funds from your bank. Once you receive them, you'll need to decide whether to leave them on Coinbase or move them. If you goal is to just hold Bitcoins, Litecoins, or Etherium, then you could just leave them or move to a more secure offline wallet.

If your goal is to trade (like day trading) you will need to move them to an exchange that allows quick trades. Various exchanges can be used such as Poloniex, Bitfinex, Bittrex, etc. These exchanges also allow you to buy other cryptocurrencies if that's what you are looking for.

Paypal is to expensive, if you want to but find the best moment, time to get some and find how price will pump, you can chech this by following market for some time and history of coin you would invest.

Where are you currently located? Location is very imporant as it's easier for e.g. Europeans to buy crypto (via SEPA bank transfers) or Americans (via Paypal monstly). That will depends very much on the exchange on which you want to buy as well, different exchanges offer different payment options and generally, the more options there are the better. So check for that.. and make sure to check out the fees and spread as well (different between market price and the exchange price you're buying from)

In your place at the beginning I would not invest too much money right away. For inexperienced users it is unprofitable. I know this from my own experience. Try to implement it a bit, play it. As time goes on you will be able to try to draw more and more profits. Remember to never give up too early!

I'm a newbie too, and I found this the hard way: if the price goes down, just wait, don't panic sell.

If you are dealing with on forum then yes always buy and sell using the escrow facility only . If you are dealing on any exchanges then check that it is trusted site and not a scam . Also invest only an extra income if you have or whatever maximum you can loss in beginning .

Using PayPal to buy BTC will have high fees since the payment method is reversible. You are better off using coinbase with your credit card.

Coinbase is available in Singapore or you can try localbitcoin.

Remember that you have to know the source from which you are buying, otherwise there is a chance that you will be cheated. That's why I recommend coinbase.
