Yes, we all want bitcoin to hit the $1 million mark, but do you plan to sell before then or even if it hits $1,000,000 would you really sell then? So the question is, have you thought about when you plan to cash in or don't you plan to cash out?

For me im planning to cash out at around 6k USD. then ill wait for another dump then ill cash out again at 9k or 10k USD. I will not wait for bitcoin to reach 1M or 100K USD. Time is gold.  Wink

If you are saying time is gold, is it would be better if you wait until bitcoin hit $100,000 ? Better wait for a while rather than cash out some pennies. Although i'm not sure when it will be happens

Yes, we all want bitcoin to hit the $1 million mark, but do you plan to sell before then or even if it hits $1,000,000 would you really sell then? So the question is, have you thought about when you plan to cash in or don't you plan to cash out?

Its really depend on the traders itself. Take a look when we hit $5000, its a mental barrier so a lot of trader have sold of at that price. But then again $1M is too big a target so I don't know if you can ever touch that price. Holders will be holders, however they will sell one time or the the other. Some may target $5000 while others $1000. If you needed the funds then you don't have a choice but to sell it as well. So there's no general answer to your question. Its a case to case basis.

Every day I convert my bitcoin into fiat currency which is the result of my trading profits, and always leave 50% profit to buy bitcoin again.
I don't hold it, but if I could sell with 200% or more profit, why not? Wink

When bitcoin will reach 1M$ you wont have to cash it out.
It will be the standard in almost all of the online and offline payments.
It will be more accepted than USD worldwide so there will be no point in cashing out of it, You will simply use it.

i don't understand the word "cash out" in this context Cheesy
if bitcoin is worth $1,000,000 that means the adoption is so big that almost everyone is using bitcoin. and you do realize that bitcoin is a currency right? in which case it doesn't really make sense to "cash out", you just spend the coins that you have been hoarding! for example you want to buy groceries, great buy them with bitcoin that is now stable and above $1 million and enjoy your profit.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

I can tell you a lot of people will have sold their bitcoins long before $1 000 000 was reached. They will start selling at $10 000/bitcoin and only the super rich will be buying and selling these bitcoins. People have these fantasies of Bitcoin being valued at $1 000 000, but by that time most of them will not even own bitcoins anymore.

If you link "time" to this statement and you say bitcoin will be valued at $1 000 000 by the year 2090, then this might be worth shit. ^smile^

I plan to sell bitcoin when i am already in need of money. $1M is a very huge amount but before bitcoin would price the high it would took years around 20-50 years time i guess or more than I maybe dead that time so before i die i will encash everything.

This makes sense, there will be a lot of people in a position
to sell their bitcoin well in advance of $1m but probably not.
In a position go get back in.

Buying into bitcoin at 4k is one thing but buying in at 40k is
anothernand will be totally unrealistic for the majority of users

As I will keep earning bitcoins during the process, what I plan to do is to spend part of my earnings and keep accumulating. That way I can grow my investment in bitcoins, no matter the price highs and lows, and also spend them so I can enjoy some of my earnings. That way I won’t be too worried about the price. Obviously, if there is a deep dip, I may not spend anything until price recovers a bit.

Probably I will cash my bitcoins when it reaches the 1m usd mark. Wow it is so amazing to think of that the thing you are supporting reached the 1 million mark. And you will have a lot of money by that. But I will tell you it will be  along game. The waiting game. It is a long waiting game to go. Probably we will reach the 1m mark probably after many years.

I'm planning to hold for a decade maybe and observe what happens. If bitcoin were to hit 1,000,000$ a piece I will certainly consult an accountant and maybe even a lawyer in order for me to make the best and legal decision.

There are three options when I am giong to cash out:
If I am in desperate need of money and everything else I had is gone already.
If the amount of total bitcoins I have passes the one million dollar.
By January first 2035. That date is not absolute, but I am planning to start my retirement there.

I'm slowly cashing out small parts of my bitcoin and altcoin holdings as the price is rising. This way, I make sure to lock in some profit while also allowing me to profit if the price makes huge jumps.

I wouldn't set a fixed price in stone, especially something like 1,000,000 USD as this is not likely to happen anytime soon. And if it happens, soon then there is probably something else going on that makes the USD worth a lot less then it is now.

If it ever reaches that high, you would expect it to be a dollar that's worth far less than the current day one.

If it were at current day rates, there would be more money in circulation, than there is nowadays total. And that would be counting just btc, which I would expect to exist among many other coins.

Am I wrong?

very much so. even allowing for 21 million BTC, at 1 million each, gives a theoretical 21,000,000,000,000 forget total world money supply, that's about equal to the current US debt

it is the risk management plan. you invest something and then speculate the price will go to 1 million dollar and then you wait until then. but nothing is stopping you from selling when price is lower. it may actually be a good idea to sell something when price reaches new ATH.

of course a better course of action is to buy in the dips and sell on tops and then buy back in the next dip. for example when price reached the ATH of $4900 you could have sold some small portion of your stash and wait a while till price bottoms out then buy back the same portion you sold and keep the profit in fiat for yourself. although some people keep their profit in bitcoin meaning they buy even more bitcoin after the dip. you sell 10BTC and buy back 14BTC

You are right there, they would have sold before it hits $1m, but I believe most people do not have any plan apart from buying, sitting and waiting and will end up cashing out impromptu due to some urgent financial commitment and not due to taking advantage of the market. I don't think people are taking the time to clearly define a strategy with of course time as a factor.  However in response to the other point, no matter the price of bitcoin users can invest with any budget as buying a whole bitcoin is not necessary. The idea watching the %age of bitcoins price increase in relation to your stake that matters e.g. if bitcoin price was $40k I could still buy $1000 worth and if bitcoin price doubled id still have doubled my stake to $2000.

But I wonder if people have actually thought about their strategy or are just generally waiting for bitcoin price to rise. I guess its probably the simplest and safest, but wt are your thought on strategy.

Thank you, this is a strategy experienced traders use that pay attention to news and the cryptospace environment. That is the idea but its still speculation, you could sell and the price could shoot up further. e.g the second wave of news claiming china would target bitcoin transactions by blocking ip addresses etc people would have thought that would have dropped the price further but it seems the price is stagnant meaning either the news hasn't propagated as much as it could have as people didn't differentiate btw the headlines and the previous exchanges banning headlines or some counter balancing measure like the effect of news from japan or who knows. Its still speculation however I guess its better to sell with catastrophic news, wait to see if it drops, then you can make a profit by buying back in at a lower price or if it gains at least you can sleep easy and you didn't loose nothing but the slight gains you would have achieved if you didnt sell as you will still have the amount its worth in fiat than doing nothing an it drops and you can only watch your value evaporate. Unfortunately those catastrophic guaranteed nosedive pieces of news are few and far between and does not provide a sustainable method to earn frequently. Any thoughts? so do you agree that; buy, wait for really bad news, sell and wait, while prices drop and then buy back in low, is a good strategy or has anyone got any others.

you totally missunderstand the purpose of bitcoin. You are not supposed to "cash in". Bitcoin is a store of value, which means you put your money there for as long as you dont need them. When you need them, you cash in.

Dont gamble with bitcoin as that is not the purpose

Yes, we all want bitcoin to hit the $1 million mark, but do you plan to sell before then or even if it hits $1,000,000 would you really sell then? So the question is, have you thought about when you plan to cash in or don't you plan to cash out?

There are lots of 'experts' on previous related threads having the same thoughts like this, "you should not cash out your btc yet, wait for it until it reaches an expensive price or you will lose the chance to earn big". I ask them when they are planning to sell their BTC and answer me with a price. Yeah right.. But when I ask them "what if you sold your BTC but then its price got even higher just a day after?", they cannot answer me. My point is, bitcoin price is very volatile. You never know what will happen so for me, I'd rather lose the "chance to earn big" rather than actually losing my investment. Here's what I do. I always cash out a part of my earnings, whatever the price is and the other portion is kept still as BTC. So whatever happens, I won't lose everything.

Im not sure 1M btc would see wide spread adoption, due to fees, rather it would be for sovereign wealth assurance and thus credit rating and large currency swaps purchases.

Eg it would still be a cheap way to transfer 200M worth of funds to buy something. I mean you could do it for a few hundred dollars that's actually ok.

However if BCH  Activates Segwit and takes over, then problem solved. We can probably do a transaction of a few cents.

So whatever happens, I won't lose everything.

its not that volatile except 1 way (up) if you zoom out the log graph since 2010

it is the risk management plan. you invest something and then speculate the price will go to 1 million dollar and then you wait until then. but nothing is stopping you from selling when price is lower. it may actually be a good idea to sell something when price reaches new ATH.

of course a better course of action is to buy in the dips and sell on tops and then buy back in the next dip. for example when price reached the ATH of $4900 you could have sold some small portion of your stash and wait a while till price bottoms out then buy back the same portion you sold and keep the profit in fiat for yourself. although some people keep their profit in bitcoin meaning they buy even more bitcoin after the dip. you sell 10BTC and buy back 14BTC

Thank you, this is a strategy experienced traders use that pay attention to news and the cryptospace environment.
it is just a simplified explanation to give the outline of what to do, there are a lot of things to consider before pulling this off successfully.

Quote
e.g the second wave of news claiming china would target bitcoin transactions by blocking ip addresses etc people would have thought that would have dropped the price further but it seems the price is stagnant meaning either the news hasn't propagated as much as it could have as people didn't differentiate btw the headlines and the previous exchanges banning headlines or some counter balancing measure like the effect of news from japan or who knows.
all true, but the effects of any news (positive or negative) can not be endless. there will be a point where no matter how much more of the same news category comes out, it won't be effective. China can say they will hang anybody who uses the word "bitcoin" and it won't matter anymore at some point.

Quote
Its still speculation however I guess its better to sell with catastrophic news, wait to see if it drops, then you can make a profit by buying back in at a lower price or if it gains at least you can sleep easy and you didn't loose nothing but the slight gains you would have achieved if you didnt sell as you will still have the amount its worth in fiat than doing nothing an it drops and you can only watch your value evaporate. Unfortunately those catastrophic guaranteed nosedive pieces of news are few and far between and does not provide a sustainable method to earn frequently. Any thoughts? so do you agree that; buy, wait for really bad news, sell and wait, while prices drop and then buy back in low, is a good strategy or has anyone got any others.
news is a secondary thing that affects the market. for example when price was shooting up and there were no resistance on the way up even if China did what they did for real back then, it wouldn't have mattered.

but if you look at the timing, when China FUD started it was after the rally had ended and the correction was also near the end and price was lower than the ATH and coming down slowly to stabilize on the bottom ($4400ish)

1 million USD per BTC is extremely unlikely in foreseeable future. I do not plan to "cash out" the whole amount simultaneously. I sold some when the price was below $1000 and some even earlier, for less than $100. Now I regret it, so I plan to hold the majority for a long time, unless I desperately need money. Not until $1,000,000, but until a few tens of thousands USD per BTC at least.

I will cash out my bitcoins if the price of each bitcoin will be ranging around 100,000 USD. I don't want to sell my bitcoins right now even the price is already x4 of my bought price, i want to settle for long term holding because i know that it is very worth it because it will make an instant millionaire.

maybe I would cash it out in times of great need. I would also cash out some of it when the price is high enough so I can use it to buy my needs or be used in a physical investment and not on a crypto currency investment.

No definite date here. For as long as I do not have some urgent need to force me to cash them in, I will remain hodling. I think 1 million dollars is too high though. I might not be able to see the day when that value is already reached. But who know? I wish it happens soon.  Wink

The question is, if bitcoin price reaches 1M/coin, will you be able to prove to the government and to the banks that your coins have been obtained in a legit way?

I think most won't, so you'll have tons of money and will have a hard time to spend it.

Better cash out a little by little while your reserves grow

i am selling my bitcoin if i have to buy something or i am in emergency situations. but if not, then i am not sell for now, i think my plan now is saving more bitcoin so i can have enough bitcoin to cash out when the price is up. actually i don't have any range of the price to sell because i think i don't know how much price i want to cash out.

I am holding 50% percent of my BTCs in cold storage, and other 50% I am using to sell at highs and buy buck at lows. At least trying to. I don't have a fixed number when I'll decide to cash out everything. I'll try to react to the market and for now the idea is to hold at least 20% of what I have indefinitely. Of course in case of emergencies I cash out as much i need Smiley

Lol very good point who knows when that day will come in the meanwhile make money and dont forget to live for today. in 2-3 years I predict at least 1000% increase from its current price. So stack up and good luck. $10,000 for $100,000

then fee is ?

Grin when btc hits $1,000,000 who can take the fee to use btc?
The miners will gladly take it, of course, but the more relevant
question is who in their right mind is going to pay it?  You think
people are going to pay for little things like postage stamps and
coffee if the lowest fee is $15 or whatever it end up being? Nope,
no one is going to pay that.  So it'll be hoarded just like it is now.

On the other hand, I'll welcome bitcoin being that high precisely
because I don't spend it (much).

This is really a difficult question to answer and it's due to everybody greed that they wanted bitcoin to reach so high so they can be rich but in the real sense even if it reached that amount. A lot of people will still sift pedalled and say "hey, why don't I wait a little bit its going to reach $2 million in 6 months".

The only thing that would make one cash out and not regret is to do it once and never looked back, shut out everything that have to do with bitcoin and continue with other areas of life because with constant checking of activities on the forum, speculation threads,  news around the globe, countries adopting bitcoin for foreign reserves, one is sure to die of frustration very early.

$1M is a nice fantasy, but it's still a fantasy.
People are saying a lot about probable price for bitcoin in future. But unfortunately we can't know what will really happen now, pretty possible that countries will follow the example of China or who knows what else. I plan to cash all my savings at 10k$ point, to me it is going to be the top, the price I have even didn't dream about when I just join to bitcoin's community. If the price is going to continue to grow after I cash it out I will not be disappointed, cause of 10k$ is very big money to me already.

I am looking to sell my bitcoins when the price reaches at least $20k each one.. I am not going to dump my coins at a not fair rate, i really turst in bitcoin, but maybe it would take some time until it reaches that price, you all know that there have been a lot of dumps in the last time, so i dont know what to expect anymore. But obviously it will rise, no matter what.

I don't really intend to ever cash in if it can be avoided. I want to spend it on other assets such as property et al if and when the need arises. The day a seller gives me preference because I'm paying in BTC is the day I know it's really arrived regardless of price.

That must be awesome! Shocked However, I don't think it will reach that high and if it does, then it's probably is acceptable worldwide. Therefore, no need to cash in, you can spend it just like your fiat currency.   Wink

For now, I try to hold as much as I can in cold storage. If I will be able to profit double, I might not wait for it to be at <$1,000,000.  Grin

I am cashing in and out in bitcoin from time to time because I have to pay some bills but I also do some jobs to earn bitcoin so its cashing in and out. I have no plans to leave bitcoin scene so I always have some balance left in case there are opportunities to buy when price is going down and then convert to USD again if it looks overbought and then buy again after it goes down. There are times also when I don't need to convert to USD and I just let my balance be there no matter how much is the fiat value because I trade altcoins anyway to add to my bitcoin amount.

who exactly is going to be left even holding BTC at 1M? essentially a lot of people will have sold out at 40K, 100K, 200K and so on. Probably a good chunk will be held by sovereign wealth funds and states at that point.

Imagine selling at 40K and missing out on the 960K.......

depending on the need when it will be cashed, the number of bitcoins currently in the wallet is not too much, and certainly to wait until $ 1m is not a short time, and whenever it happens.

but traders mentality always been this way, seeing the huge pumped sell right away, seeing downfall sell right away, vice versa and nothing or just
few of the holders can manage to wait and treat this as a long term investment, 1M is really a huge amount but who knows what btc can bring to
us seeing how competitive and how the currency being backed up.

<100000 I believe it won't ever reach that price. I'll leave 1 Bitcoin as a token, so that if it goes crazy one day and some people start paying crazy money like 100k for a coin I'll have something to brag about and I won't be left with nothing.

100k is nothing but just a speculation and a dream that price will reach to that level which will never happen. Upto 10k even if it reaches next year it be great . Considering the market of altcoins is increasing I think in coming time people will switch to other coins as Btc will become expensive and it will be major cause of concern for many as they will not be able to afford much .

never put aside a price speculation about bitcoin just because you think it is "big".
back in 2009 nobody would have believe bitcoin will be worth $1000+
even this year nobody would have dreamed price to be $4000 everyone said at best it will be $1500-$2000

and a big price like that is not really a strange thing. there are assets in the world with not even half bitcoin's usage and they are worth nearly $300,000

Yes, we all want bitcoin to hit the $1 million mark, but do you plan to sell before then or even if it hits $1,000,000 would you really sell then? So the question is, have you thought about when you plan to cash in or don't you plan to cash out?

Exactly, the greed of what could be? has got and will get a fixed %age of adopters and would be adopters tied down for life they dont even know it yet. That represents a %age of btc that is never leaving bitcoin, which is good for bitcoin and will increase its price. However there is a thin line between value and no value when an increase in asset value does not reflect in the owners purchasing power. Owning a $1million but never accessing it either directly or indirectly via interest or loans could arguably mean you dont actually have $1million. Make your coins work for you

Why don’t you mention a reasonable amount, than call a number that hits your head? Even if bitcoin is going to hit a $1 million mark, do you think it will just happen like that and in few minutes or so? If that’s going to happen, then it’s likely to take more than a hundred years. But for sure, it won’t.

Hmmn... That will be really interesting to cash out at the rate of 1m dollars! But at the moment, it's still a dream. With the speculations here and there and  with the real volatile market fluctuations, I did love to continue making profits in the trading; cashing in and out! And the bitcoin is being forseen to drop lower coz of people converting to fiat for the festive seasons. I will then plan towards buying for purpose of holding and waiting for the price to go up - and if the dream of the 1m dollars meets it, Gbam!

that would be nice if bitcoin reach $1m mark, if that thing is so sure i would keep some bitcoins and wait till btc reach $1m, but for now its just a dream. I always cash out from time to time when i earn since i need it for my daily allowance and expenses.

I think we do need to sell it because if bitcoin reach &1000000, there high possibility of people to not use cash or paper money any longer.

It will never happen, atleast in our lifetime. A reasonable amount would be 10k. I can wait for bitcoin to reach that amount before I dump a part of my bitcoin, but not all of it. It may go higher than that.

The reason why I holding my bitcoin because I will sell it in the future. I know that it is not yet right time to sell our bitcoins because the price is still not high. I expecting that the price of the bitcoin will achieve $20,000 per each.

$1M price of bitcoin is a good fantasy, think about it do you realize what will happen if 1 bitcoin reach $5,000? they all cash out their bitcoin and then the price slowly decrease then after that as of now it is increasing again. If people in the network decided that the price is enough to them many will withdraw or cash out their bitcoin. Im not saying that bitcoin will not reach $10,000 in the near future but let be literal when think about it.

I will cash my bitcoin balance, if I need money for very important and sudden needs. No need to wait for the price to go up to the price of $ 10k. The important thing is our needs are met.

Everyone holding bitcoin right now would want to achieve that amount.
But i think it is just impossible.
For me the highest price it could reach in our lifetime is just around 100k usd.
.
So if ever bitcoin will reach at 10k usd price i think it is already time to sell some of your coins.
It is already very profitable at that price.
No need to be so much greedy.

One thing I've learned from crypto and BTC is that I'm much more Warren Buffett than Hugh Hefner. My lifestyle has not changed.

All my BTC is profits from mining, I have nothing owed in $$$ in anyway of my hoard or BTC or other crypto. All equip ROI'd. Thus all profit at this point in time.

So I just wait and watch price/fud/drama/etc

Thus, if BTC hits big time bucks of 10k 100k etc....meh...I'll just play with it yet...I doubt my lifestyle would change that much

Since I've mined and held since fall of 2013 at $150 usd per BTC ....I figure more of the same...the pattern seems set.

(Then again....if I need to spend crypto to be Natalie Portman's love puppet all bets are off!)

So it all goes tri-planetary moon/mars/pluto etc....meh! I'll take a few more trips...

If it all goes tulips...meh! I'll take no trips.....

Us boring types are what makes the crypto universe work...boring as hell but damn ...we HODL Smiley

No one will sell BTC1 if it reach $1 Million, who have so much money to buy it? Maybe some companies, but it will worthless to spend so much money in one shot into bitcoin. People will sell small fraction of bitcoin, BTC0.0000xxxx and so on, average trading amount within $50-$100K. The question is; who can hold bitcoin more than 10-20 years? People tend to sell bitcoin whenever it reaches higher peaks and buy back in the dips.

Yeah, for as long as the potential for growth exists, nobody is going to cash in all of their Bitcoins. They might take a few every now and then to cover expenses, or to splurge for themselves, but other than that everyone is just going to keep holding.

Bitcoin will never reach $1M. That is more than a dream. It is really impossible. If that would happen all bitcoin supply would worth more than all they money on the planet. Do you even think about that? Bitcoin cannot replace real money because it does not have what it takes for that to happen. I work for bitcoins and cash it out everytime I am paid. I keep only a small amount for the future but I dont expect big profits from it because I know that is not going to happen

You don `t know it. Is the course constantly increasing and the market situation will not change to who knows what next? This can not be predicted, so ultimately it is not clear what is not and what is not.

I sell my coins continually and I also buy more when I need more. I mean if I see the price dropping significantly, I usually sell them just to buy them back at a lower price afterwards.

I also purchase quite a few things with Bitcoin, so you can also consider that selling.

It is a difficult target to reach $ 1,000,000, so it is too high a goal so do not expect too much but hope is possible.

Yes, I believe that is even better than just holding it. It will be worth A million to you before it is to everyone else that just holds it

If it hits 1million mark then the marketcap of the bitcoin would be around 21 trillion. And if it holds the share of 40% of total market cap of crypto, then the crypto world market cap would be somewhere around 50 trillion.I am not a financial expert to say if 50 trillion market cap for crypto is possible. If possible then bitcoin would definitely hit 1000000$.

But when it comes to me I don't wait that long.I assume 1 trillion market cap for crypto would be hit by 2019.50 trillion might take more time roughly around 20 - 30 years. That means somewhere around 2045.

Sorry I wont wait that long, and I would cash out at 100000$. I assume that will happen in the next 5-6 years.

I only will cash out if i need to spend the money, the longer I hold it will be better, but bitcoin still so far away from 1million$, so I think a lot of people wont wait until 1.000.000$ to cash out, but when bitcoin reach that number, there will be a lot of new rich people

$1.000.000 is so big amount. I havent ever thinking about it. But if its true then would be nice. I plan to sell bitcoin in short trading. Buy low sell high. I am not swing trader.

Good that you haven't thought because I every would love if anytime it reaches that price but I am more realistic that if it reaches 10k would be still good enough price to start selling. I would never wait till $million mark because I know that it wont reach till that price.

i have a plan to sell my bitcoin when it reach <$1,000,000 but if i need money then i will sell some part of my bitcoin and i think i have to do that because i need to buy something for my daily life. its been easier if we have real job or another job in real life or online because we can keep our bitcoin and we don't have to exchange to fiat if we want to buy something. but for person that only depending to make money from bitcoin, i think we can cash our bitcoin if we are really need money to our life.

Actually, I never have a mark plan for bitcoin rate to cash out. I dont think I can wait for that much longer. Right now I using my bitcoin anytime I need it, but I have some wallets stashed away as savings I didnt touch as long as I can. No particular bitcoin price to cash out, just holding it until I need it.

You have to sell your bitcoins when you are sure that they can collapse in any minute or second, but before that you need make very accurate analyzes and check information from the big players and  specialists u must check what they are thinking. About me? I sold already several bitcoins in this year.

I don't think bitcoin will reach 1 million $ mark. It will probably go higher than now, but one million is way too much. The right time to sell your btc is when you have something to sell them for.

This depends on people's entry position and expectations, for most of the early investors probably hitting 50k would be 50x or 100x already, but for someone just joined the game it will be <10x.

One million dollars is so big. It is so hard to reach that value so I’m going to sell my Bitcoins when the value of Bitcoin is less than one million dollars. But as a person who wants to be rich, I will still wait for its value to increase. I believe that its value will continue to increase but will not achieve the one million fantasy.

if i have a lots money i will wait for btc to reach 20k$ as it can possibly goes to that level but dreaming of 1million would take some time or wont happen
thats really to big in terms of investment so for me ill be happy if its reach 20-50k$ that value already can give me a good future from where am i right now.

I try not to cash out. I already pay my electricity bills with Bitcoin. Unfortunately, I can't pay for everything in Bitcoin (mostly taxes). I have a few Antminers and I'm going to keep the BTC which I have mined. Bitcoin already helps me to make a living. I hope it won't fail because it's my main source of income right now.
