I replied to a similar thread yesterday. if you research a little you will find good answers to this kind of question around the forum.
Anyway, as you are new and still adjusting to the forum i´ll leave my opinion and don´t take it as finantial advice. Just an opinion form a random guy.
1st: i´m a little ceptic about ETH. so i tend to prefer other smart contract platforms.
2nd: I try to diversify so to answer you directly i would buy a little of both. even with 500pounds.
3rd: even with 500 pounds i would diversify even further and would throw some pocket change into a small project of my choosing. I can think of DGB or XBY but there are dozens really. That way you get the security of the biggest crypto, BTC, diversify to a well established alt in ETH and make a riskier investment in a smaller coin that could pump for huge profit.

Hey Thanks for your response.

I have already invested in altcoins such XEM, SIA, IOTA, DOGE, VERGE & RIPPLE.

I have £500 left to invest and bitcoin and Ether seem to be the ones that will around for a long time. So I was hoping to have some high level Cryptos in my portfolio.

Hence the amount of investment is broken into parts  Smiley They do not want to invest everything in one altcoyin, they are looking for happiness in everyone  Wink

For me, if it is for a long term investment, I would go all the way on Bitcoin.  We all know the great returns that we can get from Bitcoin, if you can afford to invest  on Bitcoin for long tern, it will have very big return in time, I believe in Bitcoin and trends and historical data show that Bitcoin price is increasing every year, so it has great potential.

Don't ever forget the Volatility nature of these coins that can be very stiffened at times. And that is why one must be ever ready to avert the volatility risk as much as possible. In essence, I shall go along by few of my prior posters that Diversification is far more better for you in this regard , where you shall not be putting all your eggs in one basket. Apart from Bitcoin and Ether you rightly mentioned, you can as much as possible buy about other three potential coins with good features based on your research and invest upon. So that if any of their volatility falls on the negative side, you shall have few others that shall bears the risk.By then you are averagely okay, other than you loosing out on just BTC or ETH if the other way round submerged.

Nowadays i prefer etherum cause its price droped down a lot and it could increase in  short time even 2x more, so investing in it could bring more profit than in btc.

I think you can put it to eth only. the $ 500 for bitcoin is still very small, and currently the bitcoin price is still in the red market. eth although the situation is still the same, but there is a 50% increase. and the chances for a higher rise are very big.

Hi All,

I have just over £500 to spend and I'm not sure where I should be investing this.

Do I buy a small fraction of a bitcoin or buy 2 ethers?

What would you do?

I'm looking for some long term investment.

Also, i'm hoping to contribute £100 per month towards either one but not sure which direction I should be taking.

Many Thanks

It would be a much more smart move to invest equal amount of your money in both the coins. Bitcoin being the pioneer is considered as a brand of cryptocurrencies and with a strong market capital of $123 billion is no longer under a financial bubble. Hence, it ensures a safe investment.
Ethereum is the second most popular crypto and with its potential will help you earn good profits in a shorter period of time. Also, not just as an investment asset, the coin can be used as a token for smart applications or as a platform for posting new ICOs. Hence, you should consider in investing in both the coins.

I prefer purchasing bitcoins because the growth of bitcoin is really fast more than any altcoins in the market and that is the reason i always prefer bitcoins over altcoins, we should always compare coins depending on its potential so we can surely earn a huge amount of profit.

It's always wise to diversify the investment. Thus you lower the risk and have more options for profit.
So in this particular case I would suggest to invest in both,Bitcoin and Ethereum but in different ratio.
For me Bitcoin is still number one currency so about 70% I would invest in Bitcoin and the rest of 30% in Ethereum.
Still whatever of these two you choose you will not go wrong.

If you want to invest in the long-term perspective and get the maximum profit, then of course it's better to purchase Ethereum. But in order to minimize the risks, I would advise you to divide the sum in half and invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum.

That was some sincere and caring advice for everyone and smart people will definitely follow it. It was only bitcoin that made Eric a millionaire and that too in the easiest and simplest way possible. No other asset, whether physical or digital has capacity to gain too much value in a short duration of time like this coin. Any person who desires to improve his living standards ought to give one try. He won’t get disappointed in his decision.

I will invest in BTC. The price of BTC is higher than that of ETH, so I can get more money.

I would invest half in bitcoin and half in ethereum. Bitcoin will lead the charts of all cryptocoins for long time. So the value will be always high. As same a s ethereum. But ethereum has a lot of potential to gain value. The coin with his smart contract plattform is being used in a lot of project and will be in future indispensable.

you got a point there my friend.
because you can choose both coin . they are both great coin .  you really need sometimes to try your luck ,
they are both unpredictable . just like what happen last week . Eth crash and Btc .
you really need to take the risk . and Remove all your regrets

Check the growth rate of Ethereum and bitcoin over a year period and compare which one is more stable, likely to rise and not extremely volatile. I'd choose bitcoin because 5 percent increase in 500 usd of bitcoin is greater than same percentage rise in ethereum. And currently both ethereum and bitcoin almost follow the same graph pattern and percentage increase.

You can distribute this amount between bitcoin and ether. But I prefer a different approach. Its essence is that you invest a certain amount in cryptocurrencies on a monthly basis, regardless of their current value. And it gives you an optimal average price.

I think you should spend the money in ETH and not in Bitcoin in this case. This is because you have good margin of profit in two ETH than in a fraction of Bitcoin. Actually Bitcoin is more profitable than ETH but here a fraction of Bitcoin does not looks more profitable than two ETH.  A small profit in two ETH I better than a small profit in a fraction of Bitcoin.

You should use 100% of your investment in altcoin then I think the profit you earn with altcoin will be 3 to 4 times more than ETH and Bitcoin investment. There is a lot of 1000% increase altcoin within a month or two

If you have only a capital of it is better you buy eth only because you include a small capital, so by buying eth you will get more profit in eth than bitcoin and in eth you will get faster profits because it has little capital.
