Altcoin investment isn't alsways profitable. It depends which coins you buy for what price.
There are several big problems here:
- altcoin price is more volatile then bitcoin. The chance you buy too high is high.
- depending on the liquidity on the exchanges they are harder to trade. It can be hard to sell a decent amount for a decent price
- some altcoins are dead or almost dead. When you invest in those, you loose money.

On the other hand:
The bigger altcoins has good liquidity on the exchanges; you can use the volatility to buy low and sell high. So they can be very profitable.

But it all depends the way you are using altcoins.

It is very difficult to determine which campaign will become popular. There are a lot of them now, so you can make a mistake. I only buy the most popular alternative coins. They give me a small but stable profit

Yes buddy. Many of the altcoin are now cheap of cost. But ,you have to take risk.Actually speaking it's not a risk at all.Its fully based on the Analysis knowledge about the Altcoin. If you inverse in altcoin now  means,after Segwit, the price of all the Altcoin will increase sure and you surely get profit.
