From http://www.cnbc.com/id/100774151: But Peter Vessenes, chairman and executive director of the Bitcoin Foundation, was unfazed by the Liberty Reserve crackdown.
"The U.S. put out guidance recently through the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, and we've been following up on that guidance and crushing bad actors," he said in an interview with CNBC Asia. "We're seeing a bit of a sweep right now," he said. This topic is based on a typing error by CNBC. If you watch the video and listen carefully, you can hear him say "... they've been following up on that guidance" - referring to FinCEN. Yep. This thread is founded on a false premise. OP should edit his post to reflect that. Vessenes should: 1: Contact Matt Twomey at CNBC. 2: Point out the mistranscription. 3: Demand to have it corrected. Lest he wants this error re-reported and echo-chambered far and wide.
I believe there is going to be an election very soon, and that Peter will be stepping down.
This is excellent news. Any further info about the date would be appreciated so that we know when we can resume donating to the Bitcoin Foundation. During his opening speech at Bitcoin 2013, Vessenes stated that he is stepping down. I believe his words were "will be replaced, fairly soon", or something to that effect. The video is on youtube. Someone may want to find the exact quote.

It does make a difference. Please explain how. Peter HAS made several remarks regarding indicating how pro-regulation he is, and the statement in question is in support of government interference as well, otherwise he wouldn't have used a verb like "crushing".

Why not just post his other quotes so we dont have to deal with this silly tangent.
Here's a pool to start I've probably floated at least ten to 15 different offers and changes by Mt. Gox over the last three months and they've just been totally unwilling, so what are you going to do? You've got to remember that just six to nine months ago there were just people living in their basements who were running, essentially, banks I'd be happy to go on the record and say: "Yes, I would welcome regulation more." I'd like us to put up some bitcoind supernodes around the world as well, as a way to keep latency low across the network and make sure that there are some guaranteed always-on nodes. if you forked the Bitcoin blockchain and changed issuance so that it tracked say, USD or USD/EUR inflation rates for issuance, would it have the same uptake or not? I personally believe if corporations (a small group or just one) ever provably controlled Bitcoin, they would become vastly less appealing and useful.

Here's the full quote: You’ve got to remember that just six to nine months ago there were just people living in their basements who were running, essentially, banks. And they’re kinda like “my brother and my people, let’s do this thing together,” and then they’re like “oh, I erased the file,” or, “oh, I don’t know what happened to those coins, sorry I’m leaving now — you never knew my real name.”
I feel terrible that that happens, even though it’s not me that does it, or it’s not me that sends those guys money. Someone gullible sent them money and I fucking hate that. So it’s probably more a flaw in human nature, right? And that’s why we have corporate standards and regulation — all these things. And that’s probably an easier pitch to make in the UK than it is in the US. There are reasons why these laws exist, and they largely exist to protect consumers although they’re often leveraged in different ways.
“Yes, I would welcome regulation more.” Peter doesn't understand free markets. He takes the standard fascist approach that the consumer needs people like him to protect them from scammers, rather than caveat emptor. Generally, these types of power hungry fuckholes are the same people that did the scamming in the first place (Bitcoinica?) as an excuse to come in later and say "I can help protect you from this." It's the same tactic the mafia uses.

Can someone please tell that Peter dude that I don't want, wish or need his protection?... Maybe I would enjoy if he sucked my dick, but that's about it and only after taking his teeth off with a couple punches.

If you live in the USA, then you run a very high risk of ending up in prison, if you do not obey the prescriptive dictates of self-appointed 'leaders'. If you get caught with a plastic bag filled with dried leaves, you can get sent to prison for decades.
Also, if you are going to flout statutes and regulations, I hope that you are accessing this open discussion board over TOR.
Land of the free, home of the brave, huh? I broke stupid laws constantly when I lived there, and never ended up in a cage, but finally the masses of dumbed-down, cowardly slaves were too much to stand, so I left. My ISP has no record of my identity.
