Windows and dumby plugs?

I was reading a post in this thread. Someone mentioned they bought dummy plugs for their windows build. I've been running 4 cards out of one computer with only 1 video card plugged in -- no in crossfire, and I haven't had a problem with the cards becoming inactive.

I was actually wondering what they are for/what use they have for mining?

(Because I run all my cards interdependently, it's the card that is connected to my monitor that actually is device 0. So I have 4x device 0s. I can see it solving this solution, but honestly, I don't think it's really necessarily. Maybe I'm missing a point?

I use a KVM for all my machines and cards.

Did you use a registry hack ? Apparently there's something you can do in the registry that allows for gfx cards to work without a monitor being plugged in.

Actually read another person that had a topic sorta like this. (And no, I didn't use a registry hack)

He explained it well:

1: I boot my PC. (DVI plugged into card 1).
2: I start my miner.
3: I switch my DVI cord to card 2.
4: I start my 2nd miner.
...
and so on till card #4

Anyways, it seems that each card mines it's own share, so I can heat the highest numbers. Also, doing this method allows me to push each card to it's max (as we all know, every card is made slightly different and has different max overclocks..even if they are the exact same card/from the same assembly line). I suppose I like the way I have it setup, makes me feel better about the amount of work I do for the money

Radioshack sells 5x 68ohm resistors for 1$ and most video cards come with a VGA to DVI plug... it takes 30 seconds to make them . I had to use them on my system because the other cards never showed up without having some sort of plug in them. Right now I have my box with literally only a power cable plugged in (using wifi and VNC to remote in).
