Horror movies often involve themes of death, supernatural, or mental illness. Many horror movie stories center on a certain evil antagonist.
what do you think is the most scary and frightening movie?

The scariest film I've watched is Ringu. I think Asian horror movies are probably some of the scariest films, they seem to do horror very well. Some horror films are just gory and full of jump-scares, but I prefer films that are more psychologically scary, the ones that make you think and stay awake at night with weird images etched into your brain...

I would also recommend:

Audition
Oldboy (thriller with horrific elements)
Tetsuo: The Iron Man (insane cyberpunk body-horror)
Guinea Pig 1 & 2 (uncomfortable body-horror, not for the sqeamish)

Non-Asian films:

Eraserhead (classic David Lynch madness)
[REC]
Nightcrawler (not a classic horror but psychologically disturbing)

Comedy horror and slasher films:

Evil Dead 2
Hausu (insane 70s Japanese comedy horror)
Tokyo Gore Police
Yakuza Apocalypse (Takashi Miike vampire ninja slasher)
Ichi the Killer (More Takashi Miike madness)
Gozu (Takashi Miike again)

Honourable mention for the most weird and fucked up film I've probably ever seen goes to:

Visitor Q (as you can tell I like films by Takashi Miike...)

The original IT might have been scary, the latest version is more comical and it was only rated 15 - not sure why they'd do that with a horror film. I'd recommend a couple old films: Candyman and Children of the Corn

Watch “IT” and IT will scare you to death. This is the best movie for those guys who are seeking for goose bumps and strong feeling of fear. Movies on Stephen King's books are tough.

I think the most frightening movie is the jail doll, even though he's a doll, but he's still creepy.

hi, you can try Drag me to hell, the ring 0, shutter, also try to search movies from Thailand and Japan they are very good in producing horror films. But don't forget to watch it with your family or friends.  Grin

I really love horror movies and I can say that I watched a few till now.
These are a few that I liked and reccomend you watching:
-As above so below
-Rec
-The conjuring
-The babadook
-The ring
-hush
-Sinister
-Paranormal activity
-Poltergeist
-The lazarus effect
-evil dead

Most of them I think were pretty good, with pretty decent plots and good effects. I can't really stand the low quallity horror movies since I find them pretty lame so the ones I mentioned are pretty ok I guess Grin.

Best horror/comedy and really one of the best movies ever is Tucker and Dale vs Evil. It's a movie hardly anyone has seen but think it's the best after watching it. it's good to watch multiple times to pickup on the little things.

Watch "Train to Busan!" It makes American zombie movies looks stupid and poorly written. You will cry and be freaked out at the same time. And "The Wailing" is amazing. Really key to understanding it though is knowing that the woman who throws rocks at one point in the movie represents Jesus. Really great art, not just scary as all heck, great deep movies.

The Babadook is fantastic. It's both artistic and psychological. People who dislike it probably like jumpscare horror movies with no depth to them.

Creep is awesome. It makes you uncomfortable throughout the entire movie and on the edge of your seat. Highly recommended.

Split, Conjuring 2, The House of The Devil, The Thing and many more. These are the must-watch horror movies. Also, you can https://www.infogeekers.net/best-free-online-movie-streaming-sites/ check a website, creepymovies for classic horror movies. I've found a list of movie sites where you watch most of the popular genre.

While I think It was a good movie and I definitely would listen to everyone who said to watch it, I don't really think it was that scary.

I feel like scary movies that try to be scary with the monsters and gore and horror house effects don't really even scare me. The movies that really get to me are the ones that talk about ghosts or evil spirits, or ones that have evil elements and that could actually be real. Those are the ones that really keep me up at night or that will pop into my head when I'm walking alone at night or something and continue to freak me out.

Classics would be:
Friday the 13th
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Children of the Corn
Halloween
Amityville Horror---The book is much better than both movies and the original movie has a scarier plot than the 2nd but the effects are now cringeworthy
The Exorcist (the book is still good)
Nightmare on Elm St

But they don't typically compare well with newer movie effects and most of the newer movies don't scare me properly because I grew up with those /\
---though The Conjuring was decent
The Blair Witch was interesting because of how it was filmed

The Shining: Stanley Kubrick ---Classic and still holds up--- he also did A Clockwork Orange more twisted than scary
Seven

There was a series on TV called Hannibal. It was scary, bloody and twisted; more so than The Silence of the Lambs group of movies by far.
The Second season of Hannibal was my favorite, how they had it on television...I don't know.

The intensity of the horrorness itself is depends on the culture where you are living. For example, for us, asians, hooro movies like Ju-On, Pengabdi Setan, Body#19 are more scary than Dark Water (western adaptation of Ju-On), the Conjuring, etc. Thriller movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer seems scary for americans, but for us Asians, it is more like comedy. Why? Because we are already used to fight brutally, and murderous villains like in Scream and IKWYDLS would only a joke for us. But, Hannibal Lecter is quite thrilling.

Horror movies often involve themes of death, supernatural, or mental illness. Many horror movie stories center on a certain evil antagonist.
what do you think is the most scary and frightening movie?
I watch a lot of horror movies.
I saw the mummy.
But I can not find a horror film that really makes me afraid. I feel that they did not get these films into a real horror stage

Is US a good movie? I watched Get Out and it was really bad and illogical.

Current good horror movies are A Quiet Place, Train to Busan for zombie lovers and Don't Breathe. Some of these movies are available on Amazon Prime.

Exorcist for me. Read the book when I was about 11 or 12 years old, it was scary. Lol, and then I watched the movie and I night mares after that.

Soon, a lot of horror movies in the late 70's and early 80's came out but nothing beats the original and who started the whole horror genre movie in that decade.

Thanks, will give it a try if you say it's good and an original story. I was obsessed with zombie movies earlier and watch almost all the big ones like Train to Busan, World War Z, 28 days later and want to watch 28 weeks later but not sure if it's as good as the earlier one. Have you watched it?

Here are some of the horror movies I watched:

1. Veronica (2017)
2. Dawn of the Dead: Bloodline (2018)
3. The Haunting (1999) -- there is also a tv series of this: The Haunting of Hill House. It is very decent as well.
4. The Shining (1980)
5. Hostel
6. The Purge

"The Thing" with Kurt Russel is still my favorite. Netflix's Annihilation with Natalie Portman is second.

Horror movies often involve themes of death, supernatural, or mental illness. Many horror movie stories center on a certain evil antagonist.
what do you think is the most scary and frightening movie?

Get Out! is a horror movie that really surprised me. The description seemed to me very flawed but this film is really worth seeing

The house that jack built. This is not a typical horror movie because the action is built slowly here and the longer you go into the movie the bigger the horror becomes. The movie story its about the life of Jack, a serial killer and it presents all the kills he committed in his life by showing exactly how he did everything. It's not a pleasent movie to watch because there are lots of scenes where you will just close your eyes because you just can't watch something like that.

It's probably more suspense than horror but when I was a little kid there was an old Australian movie called Fortress that scared the crap out of me.  This classroom of kids got kidnapped by these guys in cartoon masks.  If you don't want to count that, then The Exorcist is probably the scariest movie I have ever seen.

I really liked The Conjuring 1 and 2, number 3 should be released in 2020, the Annabelle series is a spinoff of The Conjuring, those movies are great also, number 3 should be released in a few months.
it was a great movie also.
