We can not predict things that can happen after every fork.  If forks would be the same as with the first one then your bitcoins will stay the same and I think prices will hike once more. Better invest when prices are low.

if you invest in bitcoin then you have invested in bitcoin. and you get all the benefits of having bitcoin.
the airdrops like BitcoinGold happen all the time. if you want to claim them then you got a long list of them ahead of you. each have different block height for their payments.

The fork is just a thing between the miners and the developers team, a normal user must not worry about it. If you invest in bitcoin before the fork you will be having an additional coin in your wallet if your Wallet accepts. The value of the new coin aka Bitcoin Gold will be very less and people will look forward on dumping it as soon as possible.

I suggest investing in bitcoin now while it is still early cause as the last hardfork (Bitcoin cash) it just turned into free money, people started converting it into the original bitcoin. Your question has no relevance it looks like you don't even know what bitcoin gold is , it is another splitting of the btc chain it won't have any affect on your btc it is just going to give you equivalent number of bitcoin gold. Bitcoin gold has some features but it's purely technical and mining related you just have to invest before the splitting date to be eligible for the new coin and it should be on a wallet which supports it.
