Its easy to understand if ICO is scam most of the time. But one advice is there - if you are amateur then don't go for presales. That’s the stage where sometimes not easy to understand if it is scam or not. Its just not enough information yet sometimes. By the time it comes to crowd sale you can find many reviews and ratings. But to go into presale you need to check everything by yourself – team, advisors, partnerships

First, you need to know when the token will go to the stock exchange and which one. Because if you bought a token in February, and it will be released to the stock exchange in a year, in this case you should understand that you are putting crypts against the whole market.

I think in order to avoid ICO (Initial Coin Offering) scam you should always check the credibility of the company and if they are listed by the legit companies in the governments list.
Another thing is the feedback of other people which helps you to imagine or idea about the preview of the company.

It is something very easy to do, as an example, you should always make your deep own research about the project.

No offense, but if you fall into an ICO scam, then it means that you do not even know how to invest on cryptos.

Fake ICO is not so easy to spot, as some consider themselves legitimate. What you need to look for is proof of the approval and participation of authoritative figures, as well as a proven team.

Now hackers can also hack, so be careful, secure them with software authy .... etc. The Crypto market is a lot of potential risks I think are not suitable for those who have low tech knowledge.

People keeps falling for scam ICO since this ICO proposals and paper presentation is good as any professional who does regular business alike, but if you want to avoid them, invest coins that are already in exchange. That't it.

The best way to avoid scam ICOs is by carefully researched about their history so that you will have an idea on what's going on them because there's a lot of promising ICOs in the market today and they're just waiting for someone who have no knowledge on them and just investing the money because of ICOs words that are too good to be true. So basically before going to invest for some ICO make sure you have the knowledge and strategy on how to deal with them so that you'll never get scammed.

Generally, everyone talks about  its whitepaper while evaluating a ICO to be scam or not. But, the whitepaper cannot solely gives the idea.
For me, the only parameter is its community and the team. Their older projects may seem as reference.

I thınk you can't avoid scam ICO's if it is in your faith Cheesy because they can look legit and after six months past of their ico they can say we are done we can't deliver this product because of this because of that bla bla.. You can protect this situation with blockchain or nothing else. If you are not a risky person you need to go on with BTC LTC and Eth or really good proven altcoins.

Maybe theres a way,in some point yes it may in your faith, but most of the victims are those having no big idea about how to find legit ico, they dont even know how to read whitepaper and background checked those personalities in team.this are the most important thing to look at if youre looking for good project to invest

Some of the whitepapers posted was having good overviews and that made everybody who invested to a scam ico fell into their traps. Although many of the investors were wide readers, but it doesn't mean they're exempted of being a victim. Most of the victims were those aggressive person whom they always wanted is profit without even investigating the truth behind the project they were engaged with. Social media can help us determine the trusted ICO and one example of that is telegram and twitter, so with the latest updates of the token sales can be transparent to the public whether crowdfund is successful or not.

I mean, is there an exact list of rules that could guarantee that someone who follows them will surely not become a victim of another ICO scam. Of course there are obvious rules like event participation, reputation of team members among ather prifessionals, approve by well-known advisors. But potential scammers also know all these criteria and know what to fake exactly.

Is there a 'blockchain way' to create an algorithm, scheme or set of conditions allowing to recognise and ban scammers? Not government laws way which also good for the market in my opinion.

Would be appreciate a link to an old thread, perhaps I just didn't find it.

UPD Best Advices:
  • learn about previous ICO projects, select viable ones and participate similar ICOs
  • invest in an ICO with a working prototype only

I'm fully agreed! First of all read the white paper and make sure that project has a product. Take a look how much similar ICOs on market. And also don't forget about team.

Do not think that all that you have listed directly will definitely help to find out the scam. If so many methods. but it takes me at least 4 days to fully study ICO.

In the current ICO bubble market I avoid most of the ICOs out there. Every investor is expecting x10 gains from his blind investments. Sentiment is overheated imho.
