It is not easy to know if the ICO is a scam or not because the ratio is 50:50 in my opinion. I before joining ICO project first see what projects they develop. whether the project can be accepted by everyone or not.

I mean, is there an exact list of rules that could guarantee that someone who follows them will surely not become a victim of another ICO scam. Of course there are obvious rules like event participation, reputation of team members among ather prifessionals, approve by well-known advisors. But potential scammers also know all these criteria and know what to fake exactly.

Is there a 'blockchain way' to create an algorithm, scheme or set of conditions allowing to recognise and ban scammers? Not government laws way which also good for the market in my opinion.

Would be appreciate a link to an old thread, perhaps I just didn't find it.

UPD Best Advices:
  • learn about previous ICO projects, select viable ones and participate similar ICOs
  • invest in an ICO with a working prototype only

You want to prevent being victimized of ICO scamming?then dont join any of their project..in that way you will avoid them and safeness is on yours..

You must admit that joining ico either investor or participants is vulnerable on scamming since 95% of them now are scammers if not a pump and dump coins if released in exchanges

Initial Coin offering scam is very prominent in our generation which is basically not good and unethical activity. I think we should be careful and smart in all companies that we will consider to invest.

From experience, there isn't a sure way to avoid an ICO. The team can be good, a good whitepaper with a great proof of concept, yet the project can still fail or the team run away with the cashed raised. The best way to avoid ICO scam , is to not invest the amount you can't afford to lose. If you will invest in an ICO, ensure the company has existed offline for some number of years, and has a proven record of making a consistent profit before given them your hard earned cash.

In fact, it's very hard to predict. You can talk to someone or just take a chance, invest and relax hopefully to win)

There is no specific law to regulate ICO, so it's hard to avoid a fraud. Even some projects with a strong team can fail. Of course, most of the projects are just a fraud at the beginning, perhaps just to get into the transaction and even to cheat the raised ET. H, let's go to some ICO rating websites.

I believe that even compliance with all the ways you listed to avoid scams in the ICO will not give you any guarantee that in the aftermath of the entire ICO will be successful and will not die over time.

According to me to avoid scam ICO's you must :

--> Check the trust rating of the person who is conducting the ICO.
--> Get opinion from the experienced people and people who invest a lot on ICO's.
--> See the number of people who have invested in the ICO.
--> Don't invest in ICO and take part in bounties because even if you don't get anything you won't lose anything because you aren't investing anything.

Thanks!!

--> They may upload fake pictures and contact . So you can approach support only till the ICO is running
--> Whitepaper usually explains how the platform works . deClouds one of the most popular ICO scam fooled many peopls who where in this field for a long
      time
--> Some ICO's have goals which is almost impossible to achieve so please stay away from it .
--> Check whether are they using an escrow and check the escrows trust rating

Thanks!!

Actually it's quite hard work to avoid scam ico. But if care some points like, proper white paper, strong team, believable concept, super active in social media then you can understand which one promising ico and which is not.

I think the scammers come across naive people who believe in fantastic headlines and promises. You can't just take and generate unreasonable profit.

no one knows if an ico will become scam or not. its really hard to say and to know how. the only thing you can do is to know if their public profile is legit, also their partners if its influential or just a no one.

I think it is really hard to see good ICOs today because there is not just one but too many such that people will be dividing investments from one ICO to another. And with these situation ICOs could barely rich softcap and will end more like a scam. I think this is what is happening for most of the time.

A team to carry out ICO has its own project white paper, official website, management team introduction and so on. First of all, we must read these things in a comprehensive way, roughly judge the background of the team's strengths, and make a preliminary selection. Specifically include the project's market size, demand pain points, product planning, business processes, token-based ICO programs, funding purposes, team background, and more.
