I'm in malta and was around with a friend, we were talking about Bitcoin and all of the sudden I saw this from far

 I couldn't believe my eyes.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

No this is not a sign. It looks more like a commercial or a plain poster. I'm quite curious what is it's purpose other than confusing people here on forum? Smiley

Wasn't there a shop or something? maybe it was a sign saying that they accept bitcoin in there, just like it happens when someone says that a shop accepts visa/master/amex.
But if it is a sign, then it is amazing seeing that bitcoin is getting more acceptable and adopted in a lot of countries.
We need it to happen in the first world countries, because it will make people invest a lot in and make it more important.

Photoshop?

Who do you think has paid for this banner? Bitcoin Core developers?

I think it is an advertising poster because it is very visible and is clearly located on the edge of public travel.
there may be a group of people who deliberately want to introduce bitcoin to all people.

No photoshop, I took the picture by myself.

Well recently there have been a few Bitcoin events in Malta so I guess someone wants to promote it.

Intriguing as to who paid for it. I suppose anyone that is holding a very large number of coins has the motivation to increase interest in Bitcoin. I heard it said recently that only about 5 million so far have any form of cryptocurrency wallet. When this gets adopted more widely price increases are going to be far greater than we have witnessed so far. On top of that prices for traditional banner adverts are relatively low.

Malta is a very friendly place for Shady Forex platforms. Has been for years.

They do not tax offshore revenues, meaning you're able to set-up a company in Hong Kong ( that does not apply VAT for foreign operations ) and declare revenues from that company to yourself as an individual or a company in Malta, hence paying near to zero taxes.

So this is a very convenient way for European Citizens who chose to live there, since Malta happens to have very low income tax on individuals and companies.

If i had to guess i'd say some  wealthy crypto/trader/entrepeneur had money to spent after a big score.

Even though i'd prefer to think the Maltese government / mayor put that here to attract Crypto-entheusiasts.

Pretty intriguing indeed.

word "Bitcoin" mean anything to people who dont know anything about it

Brand awareness is one of the most important aspects of marketing. Planting the name in peoples minds makes them feel more trusting of it. So someone that sees that sign now and just thinks "Bitcoin, what's that?" will see it at some time in the future and subconsciously it won't be new this time. That's why major brands spend so much on adverts that tell you nothing about their product, they just want you to recognise their name and you'll be more likely to chose their product over one that you never heard of.

Well that is a sign all right, at least in the literal sense. It does not say whether bitcoin is actually accepted within that building, however, so I suppose it could be someone just looking to increase bitcoin's visibility and stimulate discussion about it. Either way it is nice to see bitcoin popping up in various forms even in places where most people would not likely expect it.

Well I'll be damned, it is a sign. I wonder who put it up there. Were there businesses in that complex accepting Bitcoins? It doesn't look like an ad or anything.

Yes that should be the reason for it or like others said the shop's nearby accept BTC, I see banners related to something on every corner of the road when there any event going on in my area, they put it up to basically to help you navigate to the place where event is taking place and it helps them do promotion as well although this doesn't look like a banner looks more like a advertisement board if you know what I mean.
