Why not direct donations to an established fund?

^^^^^
Because that wouldn't benefit him any?

That's my guess as well, given some content over the post history of 2,300 since April 18th.  47 a day is pretty intense.

Damn. Sorry for your loss Sad

I haven't looked into nut allergies before. What causes those? Are they genetic, or some chemical/embryonic development fluke?

Peanuts are kinda like nature's version of "Russian virus infested warez sites". Peanuts contain a vast spectrum of highly concentrated, long living and aggressive allergens. Which is what makes them so dangerous.

Now for a long time the going theory was that one's specific prevalence to become sensitized to peanuts and develop the allergy was entirely hereditary. However for the last 30 years we  have been seeing a meteoric rise in peanut allergy cases specifically in the West. A rise that is not explainable by genetic characteristics alone. There must be another factor influencing this affecting especially the very young.

Two culprits have been identified as the most likely candidates:
- The increased use of inexpensive, badly refined peanut oil in baby skin cremes, lotions and wound salves
- The increased use of peanut butter and oil in prepared foodstuffs for children, often hidden as "plant-based fat/oil"

Sorry for your loss, that is awful.

The shape of the peanut butter M&M's is more or less the same, but the peanut butter ones are actually much bigger than normal M&M's.  For a kid that young though, he couldn't know.  And probably for someone who doesn't eat M&M's often.  So sad.  Sad

It doesn't matter what shape they are. As I pointed out earlier, even regular M&M's may contain peanuts. They're all made in the same factory, and Mars has admitted that cross-contamination happens, despite their best efforts to prevent it. That's why they put warnings on the labels. A person allergic to peanuts eating M&M's of any kind is playing a delicious version of Russian roulette. This kid should never have been allowed to eat them in the first place.

While I agree, and he has my full condolences, his OP was about helping spread awareness of this issue (it was NOT to sue anyone. Someone else brought that up). In a way it worked. I'm sure a few of us learned something about peanut allergies we haven't known before.
I also know that those with allergies are often ridiculed and made fun of, because the whole thing is really unknown and misunderstood by most. I'm thankfully only allergic to cats (yeah, I know about my avatar), but I've heard stories about kids having peanuts thrown at them and whatnot. I think that's done more out of ignorance than anything else, so... bring on the understanding and awareness of food allergies I say.

Also, it often helps to channel the feelings of loss into something productive. After you're done with grief. If you're ever done.

mfw this isn't enough of a hint of what they are...

I'm going to go buy some peanut butter and give it to someone that's allergic to peanuts so we can sue the peanut butter company because we didn't realize it was made from peanuts.

And what about when they are out of the package in a bowl or something?

OK, this is stupid.  Im sorry for op's brother and all, but the company is not at fault.  If the guy had a peanut allergy so bad that a few of these would kill him, he should have avoided M&M's, esp ones that weren't in a package.  As far as donating any money to "raise awareness" how much money will it take, for the guy with a life threatening allergy, to be made aware that he better not eat the thing he is allergic to.

I live in the deep south.  I cant drive 2 blocks with out passing 4 churches... and I still get people knocking on my door, early ass in the morning, to make SURE that I have heard of this Jesus fellow.

jesus who? Wink

On your facebook (easily tracked from the filename of your images)

My little brother is 11, he had a heart attack and can't breath on his own, so he's on a machine. Please pray for him, and if you know anyone that can help us get blood flowing to his brain, please tell me. (which is identically the statement you had made about your sig "coma" sufferer.)

so how did you discover the issue was due to peanut butter m&m's, since that wasn't mentioned for the first week of this?

sorry for your loss, but that's part of the reason why it is not being treated as legit. The facebook is borderline as well.

By any chance was this the person that was in a coma?

Yes.

I just got home from the hospital, this is real, so fuck everyone talking shit and saying they should have paid better attention.
They came in a large bag, and it wasn't as easy to tell with the large bag, plus my step-dad wears glasses, but didn't have them on.

We plan on raising awareness of peanut allergies, I had no idea a peanut could do this. And my life will never be the same.

There will be a vote, but only to decide town or ville, or land, etc. But it will be dedicated to Mason.

See this? This is dumb. Here I was all defending you (even though I don't like you) by tracking you back to your primary persona while people were going "Hahaha, idiotic sob story that we've seen a thousand times". So people saw me vouching for you and thus were all "Ok, this is a real thing, let's not make fun of it for the next 120 minutes". And then you go ahead and do something like this? Really? No, hell, REALLY? How fucked up is this? Do you even think about these things before you do them? Do you think anyone, do you think any single fucking person is going to trust you now? Dude, you've got great ideas, but do yourself and everyone else involved a favor and lay off the weed.
